Looking at your list, it is probably not to your taste, but what about Edith (nn Edie).

girlsyearapart · 16/09/2009 20:59

Hi yes i'd be a bit peeved tbh.
Evie is a name I love but I read an article the other day saying it has jumped about 100 places this year so may be the Chloe of now.

I also like Stella, Tilly, Martha, Beatrice, Matilda, Tallulah.

My dds are Lola and Rosie.

I know a Lily Williams and have never thought it was a mouthful.

HigherThanAWombat · 16/09/2009 21:00

I wouldn't use Tilly or Lily with Williams. It doesn't work imho.
I love Matilda and your other choices are nice.

GoldenSnitch · 16/09/2009 21:10

When my Mum was pregnant with me, she told the whole family that I was going to be Snitch or Gregory.

3 years later, when expecting my first sister, she told the family that she was going to be Snitchsister1 or Gregory.

A year later, when expecting my second sister, she told the family that she was going to be Snitchsister2 or Gregory.

2 years later, she was 3 months pregnant expcting my brother when my Auntie (her SIL) gave birth to my cousin. Knowing full well that Me, sister 1 and sister 2 were all going to be Gregory and that Mum was pregnant again, (doesn't take a genius to guess what thier choice of boys name would be) Auntie and Uncle still chose to call their son Gregg!

6 months later my brother was born and was named...Gregory!

Sod her, use it anyway

scottishmummy · 16/09/2009 21:20

no etiquette re:names.no one has dibs and precious to think otherwise

a popular name like evie sure to be replicated

GoldenSnitch · 16/09/2009 21:22

I know 3 Evie's, it is very popular at the moment

littlemissm · 16/09/2009 21:23

this happened to 2 sisters i know 1 told the other the name they were going to use so the other 1 had her dd first & used the name(even though she said at the time that she didnt like the name) the other 1 still used the name so they have the babies born a couple of months apart with the same name

loobylu3 · 16/09/2009 21:23

What a cheeky mare! If you are still 100% set on Evie then just use it. Personally, I like Matilda from your list. I prefer Evie as a nn for Evangeline, Evelyn, or just Eve. The others are a bit too 'cutesy' for my personal taste.

scottishmummy · 16/09/2009 21:29

how is it cheeky to chose a very popular name?face it at nursery/school bound to meet other evie's too

unless chosen name is a made up and specific only to you, never written/spoken in public domain.then you cant have dibs on aname

MaggieBeauLeo · 16/09/2009 21:31

Goldensnitch, that's outrageous!!

something not half so bad happened to me when I was prg with number 2. I was out for a curry with a bunch of mums from nhs group and a load of us were up the duff again. We were talking names. I said #2 was going to be Sylvie. (This was nearly 5 years ago). This Scottish girl literally guffawed laughing and said it over and over like I was crazy. I was a bit embarrassed. it was like I'd said I was going to call dc2 tumbleweed

I had a boy. A year later, she had a girl.

Can ya guess what she called her? can you ? can you!?

Gregory is much nicer than Gregg btw. Your brother has the superior name.

MaggieBeauLeo · 16/09/2009 21:33

ps OP, call your dd Sylvie! it has something of Evie about it and it's not as popular. (i do like Evie, but I wouldn't choose it now, even though it is extremely annoying).

scottishmummy · 16/09/2009 21:33

did she call her tumbleweed

MaggieBeauLeo · 16/09/2009 21:36

Ha ha. She called her Sylvie! The name that made her die laughing 18 months earlier. Think she made a few chainsmoking bingo-playing died blonde remarks, so I really, really did not think she woudl do such an about turn!!

And she said to me, we wanted somethign a bit different that would fit in with the Ellies and Evies. I think those were my exact words to her 18 months previously.

anyway.... wtf, don't care now. was totally 'huh?' at the time.
My son doesn't look like a sylvie. he does look a bit of a tumbleweed though.

MaggieBeauLeo · 16/09/2009 21:36

oh shit, was it you scottishmummy???

scottishmummy · 16/09/2009 21:38

lol i am too literal i read it as you chose tumbleweed

scottishmummy · 16/09/2009 21:39

in a curry house guffawing. yes sounds very likely

pass the lime pickle

MaggieBeauLeo · 16/09/2009 21:39

here you go!

how's little sylvie then!?

scottishmummy · 16/09/2009 21:42

aye she can make rollies, loves bingo, and tanks the irn bru

TokenFemale · 16/09/2009 21:43

The etiquette? Kick her in the c*nt and say "that was my name bitch"

MaggieBeauLeo · 16/09/2009 21:46

is that in debretts tf?!

scottishmummy · 16/09/2009 21:47

that would fit with people who get precious about names

galletti · 16/09/2009 21:55

My dd is Poppy. I thought that her name would be really popular, but she is the only one in her school still. Although I do know two more now, one aged 6, and one aged 50! I remember when I told my mum we were going to call her Poppy that she was worried that the name might not be so good when she is 40/50, but I honestly believe that people grow into their names. I think you could say the same about middle aged Fleurs and Matildas, but does it really matter? And if dd's dont't like it, they can change it. FWIW, my Poppy loves her name at the age of 10, and I remeber hating mine at that age.

TokenFemale · 16/09/2009 22:00

Yep, page 156 Maggie

MaggieBeauLeo · 16/09/2009 22:04

well, go right ahead and kick her c*nt then. I'll hold your barbour.
