Tamsin - Could she or I live with it??

Hubby convinced this is what we should call 2nd baby if a girl. But not sure if I like it or not... Meets criteria of being

• multi-syllabic (last name a v common single)
• not in the top whatever
• not too modern
• doesn't clash with 1st daughter name Verity in rhyme or theme
• don't know anyone else with it

Is it clunky, unpretty (wouldn't go as far as ugly), 80's, interesting?? Really unsure about it but so struggling to agree something and could pass it just so we can stop talking about it.... Thoughts appreciated, can be brutal....

I'm a Tamsin. I have never had been called tampax or tampon. Never even considered that would happen!

It is a name growing in popularity. I was the only one at school (primary, secondary 6th form and uni) but there are two in my daughter's nursery and I've got 4 coming through the school where I teach.

I have never been a Tammy. People only ever call me Tammy once.

You will spend a lifetime stressing that it's TamSin rather than TasMin. That, and the lack of a good nickname are it's only flaws in my eyes. (I did try to go by 'Sin' at school once, but it didn't catch on...)

Found out recently that my relatives (100s of years ago) called 'Thomasin', 'Thomasine' or 'Thomazin' would have been known as 'Tamsin' that's how it was pronounced!

I'd be tempted by 'Thomasine' (Tamsin) for that very reason . Although she'd probably spend her life correcting people.

Prefer Thomasina to Tamsin that said.

I knew a Tamsin, she was never called Tammy or Tampon or Tampax. Sometimes Tasmin.
I think it goes nicely with Verity.

I like it but knew a very classy Tamsin at school (70s/80s). But if you're not sure, you'll have to keep looking/thinking. Do any of the following comply with your criteria?

I think Verity and Tamsin/Tamsyn have a very similar feel (both more popular in the sixteenth century than nowadays!) Know two adult Tamsyns, neither of whom ever got called Tammy or Tampon.

Tamsin seems to be the more common English version thanks to Hardy, Tamsyn the Cornish.

I think it's fine. I knew a couple of Tamsins as school, who were always called Tamsin (never Tammy ot Tam or anything unpleasant). Goes well with Verity too. But if you're not amazingly keen then I think you should keep on lokking.

Just to add know of a Tamlyn - what do you think of that?

I think she said it was of Welsh origin or something, I forgot.

I like it. Also like Tabitha - elegant name but not too popular..

My neice is Tamsin, I think it is pretty, she gets shortened to Tamsy.

Coolio looks like loads more +ve than -ve, I could be convinced... Already know a Tabitha so that's kinda gone, I like the Meredith - think of it as being quite american (irrelevant). I'm also throwing Theadora into the ring!!

my daughter is a tamsin and will not be call anything else. poeple have tried callingher tam but she goes mad, she is only 8 and poeple listen to her as she puts them in thier place we called her this for two reasons firstly i thought iwas expecting a boy and loved the name thomas and this is the femine version, and secondly at the time we liked tammy for short but now we wont call her anything else. i think tamsin is a really pretty strong name. love it cat think of many girls name we like for another one it is often discussed

I went to school with a lassie that changed her name from Lucy to Tamsin. She was very beautiful and intelligent. I think its a lovely name.

I went to school in Cornwall (ahem, rather a long time ago) and it was a popular name there. Knew a few Tamsins - one was nn'ed Tash, which I thought was an all right alternative to Tammy...

I think it's a lovely name, but it sounds like you're not too keen so maybe you should keep looking!
