We're having a baby boy! Which means, due to hubby's family tradition his middle name has to be "Alan".
surname is 3 sylables starting with Mc.... Anyone got any suggestions of first name to go with this??
Hubby and i love finlay but is only one can agree on and would like some other options!

I was toying between Cameron and Calum but forgot about the Alan bit!!

The more I think about it, I think James is lovely too. James Alan McGregor.

Finlay is really lovely, but has become very popular where I am- Somerset- and my mates in London say it is very popular there too.

happywheezer · 12/09/2009 16:43

can't have anything with the letter of l because intitals would be lam,(cute though) that's the thing with A as a middle initial, I like lola seren but my surname starts with a d so she would be lsd, which is quite spacy!

CuppaTeaJanice · 12/09/2009 18:39

With A and M as middle and last initials, pretty much whatever you choose for a first name is going to spell a word.

Cam, Dam, Ham, Jam, Lam, Mam, Pam, Ram, Sam, Tam, Yam......

Most would be OK, I'm guessing he might be a little embarrassed having Pam or Ham sewn onto his PE kit though!!

My brother is Christopher Alan which is nice even when condensed to Chris Alan. But, my vote is for Theodore Alan. Very fancy sounding.

waitingforfanjo · 12/09/2009 23:49

I think Finlay Alan McGregor sounds perfect.

And if you both like Finlay, just stick with it. DH and I agreed that for some reason only Adam 'felt' right for our son, so Adam it was.

Wilkiepedia · 13/09/2009 07:55

Hi there

Our son is Jacob Allan - Allan is a family name. Go with the name you like as firstname and use Alan as surname IMO. You child your choice

Yay!
Thanks for ALL your suggestions ladies - we've got a shortlist now:
james (jim or jamie)
charles (or charlie)
alfie
but finlay is still top of our list - think its made us realise we really do love it...though if we change our minds in next 4 months we've got a bit of a back up list!
Thanks again
Jo x
