Charlie- boy's name short for Charles.....

What do you think? is it too much of a 'dog's name'

Does Prince Charles / Charles Manson mean it's ghastly?

Thanks!

I've got a Charlie and he suits it so well so I think its a great name!!

southernbelle77 · 10/09/2009 10:26

I think it's a sweet name. It's quite popular around here and I know quite a few and wouldn't associate it with anything ghastly!

MamaG · 10/09/2009 10:27

It's a great name

crumpette · 10/09/2009 10:34

DH would insist on 'Charles' as the 'proper' name though..... I can imagine Charlie on a kid would be quite sweet...

anyone hate it?

It is becoming VERY popular, so may mean several in same class.

thell · 10/09/2009 22:25

sigh.
all the names I like are becoming uberpopular!

Charlie is a lovely name

bodiddly · 10/09/2009 22:29

only one in ds' reception class and the next one is about 3 years above him so popular but not in the leagues of Jack, Oliver etc.

jellybeans · 10/09/2009 22:34

It is very popular. It is OK IMO but I'm not that keen, not sure why.

plonker · 10/09/2009 22:40

I know quite a few baby/pre-school Charlie's. Such a cute name

Pingpong · 11/09/2009 10:58

oh it's on my list

My grandad was Charles/Charlie.
there is a Charlie in our swimming class and a school friend has named her 3rd son Charlie but it's not enough to put me off.
My DH is a bit put off by the Prince Charles thing but it is still one of our two possible boys names.
I've only known one dog called Charlie but again that hasn't put me off!

Loujalou · 11/09/2009 14:16

Don't do Charles - too stuffy. I know someone who has used it with another stuffy name poor kid. Charlie is lovely. Not met many baby Charlie's.

MamaLazarou · 11/09/2009 18:44

It is a drug, a cheap 80's perfume and a mild insult. I say no.

beanieb · 11/09/2009 18:45

like the drug?

HigherThanAWombat · 11/09/2009 18:56

I don't like it. It's bland and overused imho.

slowreadingprogress · 11/09/2009 19:24

Charles is a lovely name, really nice. Unusual too. Charlie is more common but a nice nickname.

elliepac · 11/09/2009 19:31

We have a charles who is commonly known as charlie so am obviously biased but think it is a fab name and it suits him down to the ground.

Momdeguerre · 12/09/2009 15:49

Love it, Charles is a solid adult name and Charlie is cute on a child.

Can't understand only giving a child the abbreviation - can't see that it gives them scope to grow into the name?

APoisonTree · 12/09/2009 15:51

It is the most popular dogs name i heard on a tv quiz recently.

Its also a drug.
