love it

sadly under used IMO

OrangeAnge · 04/09/2009 10:54

Love, love, love it! And I really like Abbey/Abby for short too.

EllieG · 04/09/2009 10:55

Love it. And the shortenings.

stripes200 · 04/09/2009 10:57

I love it, if I have another girl she will be Abigail, it's lovely.

LouMacca · 04/09/2009 11:16

Lovely - and lovely shortened to Abbie too.

shakirashakira · 04/09/2009 11:18

Little bit 70s for my liking but ok.

PinkTulips · 04/09/2009 11:21

Adore it, it's dd's middle name.

The only reason we didn't use it as her first name is that i don't like Gail as a shortening and didn't want to be put in a situation where everyone calls my dd something i hate, might still happen though, she has a very common first name so may well choose to use Abigail in year to come if she's in school with 5 other [DD's name]s

RoryGilmore · 04/09/2009 11:33

Love it, but Abi as a shortened version.

Would be DD2's name if we ever get there

bellissima · 04/09/2009 11:45

Not sure it's under used - two in DD2's class. Like it thobut.

And love getting the invitations to their parties (except that both mothers far too young to know what the old bat is talking about when I say that).

nickelbabe · 04/09/2009 11:46

beautiful name, go for it!

bruffin · 04/09/2009 11:50

It was on my shortlist for DD but she really isn't an Abigail so glad I didn't choose it.

sweetkitty · 04/09/2009 11:53

DD1 is an Abigail shortened to Abbie, I know about 6 others round here though luckily she is the only one in her class, I think Abbie has been in the top 20 names for about the past 7 or so years.

oneopinionatedmother · 04/09/2009 11:57

my neighburs kid is called Abi - nice name. My best mate at school to.... though i don't like that it means 'servant'

it is a name i associate with good people though.

PinkTulips · 04/09/2009 14:29

OOM... it means 'fathers joy' according to all my baby books

NeverLeapfrogOverAUnicorn · 04/09/2009 14:33

If I'd had a girl I would have used it. I love that name. It's so beautiful, but not one of those cute little girl names that sound stupid on you when you get to 30!

gloomysue · 04/09/2009 14:44

Boring.

ninja · 04/09/2009 14:51

It's does mean Father's Joy (or Father Rejoiced) - it'sa certainly not 70's (I was born in 1970 and there certainly weren't many around then, I would have noticed). It's a great name and should be shortened to Abi

Can you tell I'm biased

I agree Ninja I don't remember any Abigail's when I was growing up either.

Old testament hebrew name meaning Fathers Joy

puffylovett · 04/09/2009 15:49

Love it - it's currently competing with Holly for my top name for DC2 if it's a girl, due (yikes!) in a week or so

MaggieVirgo · 04/09/2009 16:03

Abigail isn't underused!

LaDiDaDi · 04/09/2009 16:06

I really like it.

ninja · 04/09/2009 16:45

Yes - I was definitely the only one I knew. I still turn round when people shout Abi

Doozie · 04/09/2009 17:22

Beautiful meaning, but I just don't like this name or the nn. Sorry!

BitOfFun · 04/09/2009 17:39

I love it...but I've got one, so I'm biased
