Any suggestions for boys names that straddle both English and Indian (non-muslim) cultures? We seem to have lots of girls names but are stumped on the boys. Thanks!

Actually, that was a bit like the end credits to The Waltons, sorry

Indian boys' names

I think a lot of them would work OK in English

puffling · 03/09/2009 23:30

I've not come across any Indian/ English names, bot these Indian ones could sound English:
Timin -large fish! (shorten to Tim)
Neel - meaning blue
Kiran - meaning ray
Jay - victory
Hari - monkey!

Milan, it means east meets west, I think.

I have British born Indian friends called Tariq, Ali and Ismael which I think are all lovely names, although I do admit I love the name Tariq

And Lol at the Waltons, g'nite Billy Bob

gagamama · 04/09/2009 09:24

Deven is a lovely one.

Ash-short for Ashok or Ashley?

FaintlyMacabre · 04/09/2009 09:30

Aran/Arun?

skymonkey · 05/09/2009 22:22

We were looking for the same for our boys, for their middle names; our list included

Harry/Hari
Jay/Jai
Arun
Rohan
Kiran

But I agree, girls are definitely easier!

GrendelsMum · 06/09/2009 10:37

Mmm, I'd say 'Arun / Aran' is a good one.

Amitabh is not great as people keep assuming that 'Ami' is a girl.
