Names that will go with Baby One

I did have a thread about this before. The very helpful advice gave us a great couple of names so I deleted it from my watch list, and now DH has declared both names out of the running so I need to start again.

DD is Cecily, so we are looking for inspiration for both boys and girls. Any suggestions gratefully received. The not having a name is driving me mad!!

I think (rightly of wrongly) of Cecily as being quite an Edwardian sort of name. So I will try to think of other names in this vane. Diddl's girls suggestions are spot on in this respect, but the boys ones are a bit more modern.

Do you want a name that ends in an "ee" sound like Cecily? In which case:

Boys:
Edward - Teddy
Gilbert - Bertie
Tobias - Toby

Girls
Florence - Floss(ie)
Constance - Connie
Dorothy
Felicity

Or, do you want something that sounds different

Boys:
William
Julian
Tristan

Girls:
Beatrice
Vita
Harriet

Some of these are more Enid Blyton than Edwardian, but HTH anyway.
Virginia

AliPalli · 01/09/2009 12:35

Whoops. Clearly Virginia was another suggestion, not my name .

BTW, thought of a couple of lovely names beginning with the same letter as your surname, but assuming that's no good.

vivaGlasvegas · 01/09/2009 14:44

Hi Puree,

loved Sybil's suggestion on the other thread of Genevieve.
Emma
Helen
I love Dorothy, DH won't let me have for any future DD2

I think (rightly or wrongly )that a nice solid sounding boy's name would go well like
Edward
Benjamin
Jonathan
Henry

Are we going along the right lines for you?
What boy's name did you have in mind for C?

loobylu3 · 01/09/2009 20:52

I have a little Cecily and Genevieve would be my top name choice if I ever have another LO! I wouldn't necessarily say they 'go' but it is a beautiful name.
Names that you might like that seem to match the style of Cecily or 'go well' imo:

Violet
Pearl
Ivy
Elodie
Rose
Lucia
Alice
Beatrice
Penelope
Francesca
Eleanora
Dap hne
Adela

Benedict
Augustin
Theodore
Edward
Albert
Rufus
Arthur

Can you give a little clue to your taste by telling us some other names that you like?

pureeandpearls · 01/09/2009 21:04

I'm so loving this-

would love Beatrice and Penelope but have surname issues (would give word approximating penis and Bin which DH thinks wouldn't be good from teasing point of view.)

Love, love, love Genevieve but would be Gin. Like Theodore George Francesca and Florence but have been taken by close friends. I like Arthur but DH doesn't. Love the nickname Teddy but not Edward. Having more trouble with boy than girl (current fave is Evelyn)

Want something that has a nice nn (doesn't everyone) but doesn't end in the -ey sound and doesn't begin with I, P or C.

Am I being too fussy? Is it harder to get second name than first?

Thanks so so so much for all your ideas- they are great!!

Cecily is lovely. I really like Beatrice and Penelope as suggested. Also, Verity and Gregory or Zachary. Julian is lovely. I know one. I also like Julius. Cecily and Julius. That works very well.

loobylu3 · 01/09/2009 22:01

Puree- I would use Evie or Vivi as a nn for Genevieve, although would try to use full name is possible.

More boy's names:

Felix
Dashiell
Gregory
Jasper
Henry
Sebastian
Conrad
Lucas

Can't have names beginning with P (P + surname = Penis or thereabouts!)

Love Dulcie and Genevieve- why are girls names so easy?

Still haven't found a boy's name DH likes....
