What springs to mind with this name?

Something a bit biblical about it - think it means 'princess' in Hebrew. Doesn't conjour up anything heinous. Sounds like a very nice person, if that makes sense?!

StretchFucksTheMailDaily · 26/08/2009 16:08

Hello!!

I think it's a lovely name personally!

MrsBadger · 26/08/2009 16:08

oh it is dull

admittedly I don't know any baby ones but I know at least 10 in their 20s and 30s

GoldenSnitch · 26/08/2009 16:10

Me

I always thought it was boring when I was younger cause it was so popular and I knew loads of others with the same name but you find very few little Sarah's about these days.

It does mean Princess too [preen]

It's hard to shorten, although I have had a few 'Sezza's' or 'Saz' and I've only known someone spell it wrong once...

LadyoftheBathtub · 26/08/2009 16:11

My sister is called this but I've always found it a bit meh tbh. Even 30-odd years ago I thought my parents were being slightly boring calling her that.

I have a lot of work contacts and about 10 of them are called Sarah. (On the male side about 10 of them are called Paul - it's kind of the same name isn't it?)

StretchFucksTheMailDaily · 26/08/2009 16:15

I shorten it to Sez sometimes. I always liked the fact my name meant princess and my sisters name meant a tree!!

As a tomboy I would rather have had the tree name. So ner!

(what is the tree name? )

TheApprentice · 26/08/2009 16:19

I love the name Sarah. I don't agree that its not so common now, though. I'm a primary school teacher and find that every school has a few Sarahs and they are invariably lovely!

Sarah is a classless name, too, iykwim - you come across it in all walks of life.

Laura

Actually, it's quite a nice name LadyoftheBathtub, I was just a mean big sister!!!

I don't know any Sarah's under the age of 20. But I do know a few Laura's under the age of 10. I think it's a nice baby name too.

TheChilliMooseisOmnipotent · 26/08/2009 16:44

It's a pretty name that isn't used often enough any more. I like it.

I like it. It's quite pretty too.

madeupsurname · 26/08/2009 17:08

I love Sarah and wanted to use it for DD but wsa vetoed.

It makes me think of a lovely friend called Sarah and also Sara Dylan, Bob's wife and subject of many beautiful songs.

Jujubean77 · 26/08/2009 17:11

There's one in every office

GoldenSnitch · 26/08/2009 17:12

There's a lovely song by Thin Lizzy called 'Sarah' - had it played at my wedding

fanjolina · 26/08/2009 17:14

agree with ChilliMoose

MrsMattie · 26/08/2009 18:14

I'm a late 70s child and every other girl was called Sarah at school (or Emma). It's a pretty name but it's the height of vanilla for me.

MamaLazarou · 26/08/2009 18:16

Same here - at my school, everyone was called Sarah, Emma, Nicola or Michelle.

GoldenSnitch · 26/08/2009 18:29

In 30 years time we'll all be haviong this conversation about all the Isabels we know

I suppose I should count myself lucky I got away without having Jane or Louise as my middle name!

purlease · 26/08/2009 18:32

due a revival

violethill · 26/08/2009 19:19

A really beautiful name, but became too popular around 30 years ago.

Hopefully due a revival.

differentID · 26/08/2009 19:22

Love the name- but it was very popular about 30 years ago. I only know of 1 sarah under the age of 12.

MrsVik · 26/08/2009 19:26

To me is conjures up an intelligent and quiet girl.

I think it's a peaceful and understated name.
