What springs to mind with this name?

I've always found it dull

throckenholt · 26/08/2009 19:36

I would have had a Sarah - if I had had a girl (I got 3 boys instead )

Ceolas · 26/08/2009 19:38

Love it. I have a 9 year old Sarah

TheCrackFox · 26/08/2009 19:41

Every single Sarah I have ever met has been staggeringly beautiful, intelligent, good company and thoughtful.

DamonBradleylovesPippi · 26/08/2009 19:48

I though I was the only one to have noticed the link between the Sarahs of the 70s and the Isabelles of the 00s.

Great name but for the reason above I cannot imagine a little girl with such a name, only mid 30s gorgeous young gals . Great song by Bob Dylan too. Never heard the Thin Lizzy one. Will check it out now.

florence2511 · 26/08/2009 19:49

My name is Sarah and I'm not all that keen, but that is because it was a very popular name during my childhood. My parents could have come up with something a bit more original in my opinion.

But it's relatively unheard of now for newborns, so go for it if you like it. At least it is a proper name (not made up).

boodleboot · 26/08/2009 20:17

really sorry at the millions of MN sarahs that are going to hate me but this is about the dullest name you can get in my opinion....

StretchFucksTheMailDaily · 26/08/2009 20:25

And Goldensnitch, I have one of those middle names!!!

When I was having DD1, the women in the bed opposite called her DD Lisa. I thought it was a bit strange at first (having had 3 Lisa's in my class alone) but now 7 years later, I imagine a little girl same age as DD1 called Lisa and I think it's lovely!!

TheOldestCat · 26/08/2009 20:26

Well, I'm one (not insulted boodleboot, but you're right there will be millions of us on MN ). I like my name but it was annoying there being loads of us at school and now there are a fair few of us at work (41 out of a company of 2,500).

What springs to mind? Someone who has to make their mark to avoid just being Sarah H or Sarah B.

For any Sarahs: Celebrating Sarahness

GoldenSnitch · 26/08/2009 21:07

Both perfectly lovely middle names Stretch

In fact, I've been toying with the idea of using one of them for my DD who is Due in December.

I would have probably ended up having one myself if my Great Grandmother had not passed away just before I was born.

sazzlelou · 26/08/2009 22:51

I'm a Sarah.
When I was younger I wanted to be called Sally, which is even more meh in my opinion.

I'm not sure about it, I love me obviously But I dont like it when OH calls me Sarah, sounds wierd. Maybe I think i'm being told off

I tend to get called Saz, sometimes Sazzle, and a friend calls me Ses.

I liked the fact that my name meant princess, my brothers means crown and my sisters means... sheep

cheesesarnie · 26/08/2009 22:54

I'm a Sarah too I'm a nice specimen, but do find it dull being one of soooo many.3 of my very close friends are also sarah's and its a tad confusing at times.
dh calls me sez which i hate.

tattycoram · 26/08/2009 22:55

I like it, but I love Rachel. I think Rachel would be a really lovely and unusual name for a child these days

GrimmaTheNome · 26/08/2009 22:59

I never met a Sarah I didn't like - and there were lots in my generation.

I don't think theres a single one at DDs school, so it may be ripe for re-use.

florence2511 · 26/08/2009 22:59

I hate being calles Sez or Saz - absolutely hate it.

I too wanted to be called Sally as a child and still would as it's tons nicer than Sarah and less popular aswell.

TheCrackFox · 26/08/2009 23:02

A lot of my family call me Sally, which I quite like. Cannot bare Sez/Sezza. I worked with one woman who insisted on calling me Saspirella. WTF?

sazzlelou · 26/08/2009 23:05

Tatty - Rachel is my sisters name I was commenting on

I know a lot of Sarahs other than me.

Mum originally thought about Zara but didnt want people to think she was copying Princess Anne

LevitatingCopy · 26/08/2009 23:07

I really like it - yes you could call it 'vanilla' in style, but for me that's an advantage - the smaller a stick you give classmates to beat your child with the better imo

And the fact that it's not wildly popular at the moment is an advantage too - best of both worlds.

PinkTulips · 26/08/2009 23:07

dd is a 4 year old Sarah.

We gave her a less common middle name that we loved in case she feels it's too common when she gets older and she can use her middle name instead.

But it just felt completely right for her, neither of us could imagine her being anything else.

I did get narked when a new child started at playschool and the teachers started calling dd Sarah P and let the new child be just Sarah as apparently Sarah M was too much of a mouthful

paisleyleaf · 26/08/2009 23:13

I like it.
I like quite a few of the names that were common in the 70s. Funny, they were meh to me at the time, but now as baby names some of those names are lovely, and chances are there won't be many around.
I don't know of any Sarah's around my 4 yr old DD.

I do think of Sarah Records a bit though.

pranma · 27/08/2009 13:33

My Sarah ıs Sassıe or Sasskın as nn
I like Sally or Sadie too
My dgd is Serra whıch ıs a Turkısh versıon-my granny, myself and my dd all have ıt as one of our names.

pranma · 27/08/2009 13:36

that keyboard again!!

Ceolas · 27/08/2009 13:41

Probably less common north of the border. There are only 2 Sarahs at my DD's primary school.

tattycoram · 27/08/2009 14:44

Sazzlelou, I thought it was, my best friend is also a sheep. The two names often go together don't they

sazzlelou · 27/08/2009 18:33

Tatty - Yes they do, I know of a couple of Rachel and Sarah's.
My brother's Stephen and that goes with the two a lot as well
