I really love this name but am worried about her being teased in the school play ground along the lines of Silly Cecily .... Does anyone have a Cecily and how does she get on?
Also what do people think about shortening it to CC?

Love the name, honestly don't think teasing along those lines would happen. CC (or Ceecee) is quite a normal abbreviation, I think, and it is very nice.

pfft

no worse than Smelly Ellie, Bendy Wendy, Dawn the Prawn, Hannah Spanner, Isabel-neccessary-on-a-bicycle, Laura Borer or Rebecca the Woodpecker

NB they were all in my class as well and seem to have grown up reasonable well-balanced

I love it - v pretty name. Wouldn't have thought of the NN tbh.

lol MrsBadger. Thanks guys - think it's top of the shortlist.

Lovely name, would never have thought of this as a teasing issue tbh.

I prefer Celia, but I don't think you should worry about teasing.

Someone calling their son R-marni should worry about teasing

hulabula · 24/08/2009 17:40

The meaning of Cecily/Cecilia would put me off - it means 'blind' in latin.

Shame as it's a nice name otherwise.

frazzledoldbag · 25/08/2009 10:47

I like Cecile better

pureeandpearls · 30/08/2009 10:01

I have a Cecily, admittedly she's only 1, so no teasing yet. Everyone seems to love her name and it really suits her. If you like it, go with it.

FWIW, I only learned the meaning after we chose it and it didn't put me off. And I am Kelly and got loads of teasing at school for having a ski-jump nose. If kids are going to tease, they'll find something!

loobylu3 · 30/08/2009 12:46

I really wouldn't worry about that sort of teasing too much. Children will any excuse to tease if they want to and being called silly is pretty mild!
It's a beautiful name although I am v biased

blametheparents · 30/08/2009 13:12

I love it, but have a slight lisp so it sounds rubbish when I say it.

The NN never crossed my mind...doubt it would be an issue in the playground.
