I think it can be either. I knew a boy Darcy at school, but as you say Darcey Bussell has an "E".

I would say;

Darcy for a boy
AND
Darcey for a girl

but maybe I'm just confusing the issue further

Hi i have a Darcie and do regret this spelling slightly as it often gets spealt wrong. At the time i just thought it looked nicer and was more girly.

i did always think Darcy was a boy

The heroine of that well known book "A College Girl" (published 1908) is Darcie.

Well his/her big sister will have the same problem with the shortened version of her name, which also rhymes with something unfortunate.

quite right dont bother about what a bunch of strangers think of your names

you wouldnt chose names based on what strangers at bus stop think, so dont ask a bunch of anonymous burds on pc

Wouldn't worry about people rhyming names to be cruel. If a child wants to be cruel, it will do. Imaginative children, they'll find something. Even if your child is impeccably dressed, wonderfully named, there's always something. "Eugh, you've got hair on your head. Yuck, you're like a toilet brush" for example.

Good thread , DD1 is 2 weeks and Darcey with an "e" after much debate. Agree that without is more a surname/boys name. I know a couple of other Darcey's who are all with an "e" too.
