I'm not pregnant or anything but I just adore this name if I had another girl one day but something says it's in the same vein as Apple. Thoughts?

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

I'd either think it was chavvy (made up name) or incredibly posh. I guess that's not much help.

Don't really like it though. Tisn't really a name, is it?

CarmenSanDiego · 17/08/2009 21:39

I don't understand this 'made up name' thing. Is there an official book of names that you're allowed to pick from? Why is Rowan or Holly a name but Maple isn't?

MrsMattie · 17/08/2009 21:48

Stripper name.

Maple Rose sounds like a paint colour - beige with a hint of blush.

Don't do it.

expatinscotland · 17/08/2009 23:40

oh, no! you don't even have pregnancy hormones to blame?

ipiratethief · 17/08/2009 23:42

was just thinking paint colour too!!!

MadBadandDangerousToKnow · 17/08/2009 23:42

Sounds like the veneer on an Ikea wardrobe.

codinbatterindailymail · 17/08/2009 23:43

Daft as a brush.

No. Wood and syrup. And that's all.

shockers · 17/08/2009 23:52

I've been looking at kitchens today... did you get the idea from a moben catalogue?

Sorry... that wasn't nice, I just think the two names don't go together. I do think Mabel Rose is lovely though....

KristinaM · 17/08/2009 23:55

well thank goodness you are not pregnant

just keep your legs crossed

mathanxiety · 18/08/2009 02:28

Well I think Maple is nice. But then, reading the comments, I thought Leaf was nice too...

pixiestix · 18/08/2009 08:10

I immediately thought of syrup.
I would be thinking "ooh is your brother called peanut butter or jam?" if a met a Maple.
Sorry!

imoscarsmum · 18/08/2009 09:23

Some funny comments, made me smile. I still like Maple - I met a young chinese woman recently who chose it as her English name and she was a lovely woman.
But no can't blame pg hormones (but I wouldn;t anyway, I still have a brain). And I don't care if people think I've mispelt Mabel (makes me think of Playschool), it's just whether Maple is too wierd for a future DD.
We'll just have to see - mabe if No2 will be a boy and I could call him Oak or Ash

I knew some Australian siblings who were all named after indigenous trees, there was a Jarrah, a Cyathea, a Mallee and a few others.

MrsBadger · 18/08/2009 13:47

well, so long as none of them were Gum...

HecatesTwopenceworth · 18/08/2009 13:48

yes. madness.

apart from anything else, people would always assume it was Mabel Rose.
