Unusual names for twin girls?

Kiddi · 16/08/2009 16:40

Trying to help sis come up with names for her twins, preferably starting with the same letter.

My ideas (below) are a little unusual but I am actually beginning to wonder if they are safer bets than her choices!!!!

Clarissa/Cecilia
Elysia / Evelyn
Marissa/Monique
Napia/ Narissa
Octavia / Ophelia
Taliah / Tawnie
Violet / ?

Other suggestions welcome, she is after uncommon but well matched names

Might be onto something with the classics here:

Persephone (Greek goddess of Innocence, yes also of the underworld but ignore that!) and Helen - Greek sisters, daughters of Zeus

The muses which have nice names IMO choose from:
Thalia - the muse of comedy and EITHER
Calliope - the muse of epic poetry
OR
Clio - the muse of history

Jenna and Eden both mean gardens of paradise

GrendelsMum · 16/08/2009 19:42

Thaisa and Hermione (Shakespeare)
Marina and Perdita (Shakespeare)
Cecilia and Camilla ? (both novels by Frances Burney)
Evelina and Cecilia ? (ditto)
Clarissa and Pamela (both novels by whats-his-face)
Helen and Diana (classical)
Helen and Hecuba
Melanippe and Medea
Iphigenia and Ion
Alcestis and Andromache

I actually quite like Thaisa and Hermione...

Names with the same letters only cause confusion, especially as they get older and they start getting post!!

Glynne · 16/08/2009 21:43

No Malung, I don't know any twins with the names I suggested!Just coincidence.

Let me guess though...do you have an Antonia and a Claudia?? I love both those names!

How about (for OP):

Sapphire and Scarlett (I do know sisters called this) same initail and theme!

I know twins names Millie and Ellie, but poor little Millie is really Mildred, while Ellie is Elizabeth. Their official post office names have different first letters, but the parents started the naming process by picking the nns, because they sounded so matchy, which is what they wanted, then finding something they could be short for.
Nice to have an unusual letter that both names share somewhere than going for the matchymatchy thing, imho. (I'm thinking of the letters v or z or some other unusual letter). Something like Hazel and Elizabeth. Then there are names that are unusual like Iseult and Ursula -- they actually have the "U" in common although it's not very obvious, or Isolda and Ursula (same last vowel sound) and something like Violet and Thalia that have a ring together but stand alone.

GrendelsMum · 17/08/2009 12:05

It's not a disaster to have two children with the same initials and birthday, you just have to be prepared for years and years of "Muuuuuum! She opened my letter! It was my letter! It was to me!"

campion · 17/08/2009 13:51

Identical twins get enough - often unwanted- attention. They don't need daft pairs of names or anything unusual as well.Depends whether you really want them to be separate people.

Just pick your two favourite names and go with that - most people can only go for one.

sweetkitty · 17/08/2009 14:01

Dolce and Gabana I believe are twins living in Glasgow

NorbertDentressangle · 17/08/2009 14:07

Psyche and Delia

(DP swears blind that as a child he knew twin girls with these names and, yes, they would have been children of the 60s)

GrendelsMum · 17/08/2009 18:24

While washing up, a brainwave struck me.

Clytemnestra and Chlamydia

LilyBolero · 17/08/2009 18:29

I would definitely use themed names;

Hazel/Rowan
Josephine/Beth (Little Women)
Viola/Olivia

HerHonesty · 17/08/2009 19:30

samantha and ella. sorry just could resist..

malung · 17/08/2009 22:04

Glynne I have an Antonia and the other was nearly Claudia. They are just names I never hear on MN or in RL.
Obviously I love them(and their names)

littlemissm · 03/09/2009 23:00
