Sorry for being a bit thick, but I have recently seen the name Lucia which is a name I am not familiar with. How would you pronounce it?

It is like 'Lucy+ah' (with stress on the 'Lu'), or 'Loo+sha' or 'Loo+sear' (with stress on the 'se') ?

It is not Loo-shia, like St. Loo-shia the caribbean island. It is Italian in origin and is properly pronounced Loo-chee-a. Lovely name.

One of my fave names (Tahlia) has been ruined by people using it and not knowing how it is pronounced. Tar-lee-a,
not Thay-lia, or Teh-leea!!!!

Oops! spelt it wrong myself there - got carried away with my phonetics! Proper spelling is Thalia, hence mispronunciations!

It's Loo-chee-a for the Italian pronunciation and Loo-SEE-a for the latin american (my favourite) pronunciation and in Spain it is Loo-thee-a

PLEASE don't pronounce it Loosha or Looshia! please please please, this is a beautiful name without anglicizing the pronunciation.

My SIL is Loo-Chee-Ah, but then she's Italian.
