Just out of interest, how would you pronounce the name 'Helena'?

Thanks

I would say Helina.

stleger · 09/08/2009 17:29

Here it is Heleeena.

WhereTheWildThingsWere · 09/08/2009 17:35

Hell-en-a, my best friend was Helena years ago.

mopsyflopsy · 09/08/2009 17:48

Hel-ayna

annasmami · 09/08/2009 17:51

Hell-ena - lovely name!

Esmee · 09/08/2009 18:21

Lovely name! I prefer it pronounced HELL-eh-na

TrillianAstra · 09/08/2009 18:35

First reading of title 'Helen-ah'

Then thought, ooh go post on thread and remind her that some people will say Hel-AY-na and ask which one she wants.

Babbity · 09/08/2009 18:48

HELL-eh-nah

bodiddly · 09/08/2009 19:09

I prefer Hel-ayna

Disenchanted3 · 09/08/2009 19:12

hell-ay-na

Paolosgirl · 09/08/2009 19:13

HELL-ah-na

Love love love that name

AnotherHelenB · 13/08/2009 19:32

The one I knew pronounced her name as 'Helen' with an 'a' on the end (Hell-en-a). She then spent her life correcting people who went for the 'Hel-ayna' version. So whichever way you think it should be pronounced, there's going to be people pronouncing it differently, and she'll be forever correcting them

pania · 13/08/2009 21:43

I'd probably say Helen-a (unless the surname was Handbasket), but I like Hel-ay-na better.

There was a girl at school called HelEEEna, which I think was just wrong on her parents' part.

BitOfFun · 13/08/2009 21:47

Stick to Helen, much simpler

TimothyTigerTuppennyTail · 13/08/2009 21:50

Helen - a.

I know, I am one.

MaggieBelleVirgo · 13/08/2009 22:00

Hell-inn-a

I prefer Elena.

Poncherello · 21/08/2009 21:12

Ah that's my Mum's name ... she pronounces it Helayna but has always been called Lana. Did you know it was St Helena's day this week?

janeite · 21/08/2009 21:14

I love the name Helena, pronounced either Helen-uh or Hell-ay-nuh. Yum. Also love Elinor. Not so fond of Helen.

Heated · 21/08/2009 21:16
  1. Hel-ayna or 2) Hel-enna, either way a beautiful name.
Wilts · 21/08/2009 21:18

I know a Helena, her name is pronounced Helen- a, but she is called Helly.
