no

diedandgonetodevon · 07/08/2009 20:53

Initially I didn't like it, but actually I think it could grow on me...

CloudDragon · 07/08/2009 20:53

no sorry it will be a lifetime of merrily down the stream.

how about Mary Leigh instead!

wrinklytum · 07/08/2009 20:54

No!

What about Meredith? (I am assuming girls name needed?)

sunshinejanuary · 07/08/2009 20:55

I like Meredith but my DH is very keen on Merrily...

OrmIrian · 07/08/2009 20:55

No.

peachygirl · 07/08/2009 20:57

There is a very old book at my parents house (probably 1950s) called 'Merrily makes things move'.

I think she goes around doing good deeds then probably foils some smugglers plan.

pasturesnew · 07/08/2009 20:58

No. Honestly, go with Meredith.

sunshinejanuary · 07/08/2009 20:59

But do you like it Peachy?! I am not doing too well so far!

millenniumfalcon · 07/08/2009 20:59

no

GossipMonger · 07/08/2009 21:00

No no no!!

'This is Merrily Smith, News at Ten, in Iraq.'

'All rise for Judge Merrily Maynard. Court now in session.'

although quite pretty in a chirpy way, she would not be taken seriously.

At the grand age of 38 I would HATE to be called Merrily and DH has just said that he would probably not have married me if I had such a silly name.

Your DH could call her Merrily Meredith as a nn if he is so desperate to call her that but personally - NO!

JeMenFous · 07/08/2009 21:00

Verily no

trixymalixy · 07/08/2009 21:00

No, she'll get the piss taken out of her at school, meredith is so much nicer and you could shorten it to merrily as a pet name.

sunshinejanuary · 07/08/2009 21:01

good grief, i didn't think it was that bad he he. Hilarious!

peachygirl · 07/08/2009 21:02

I do but it would have very 1940s gung ho connotations for me.

Would you not consider Meredith and then use Merrily for a nickmane, much like the Amelias / Millie's / Matilda/ Tillies there seem to be so many of ??

cvyes · 07/08/2009 21:02

NO go for meredith sorry don't want to sound harsh

cupofteaplease · 07/08/2009 21:02

Yeah, I like it!

MaggieBeauVirgo · 07/08/2009 21:28

Ding dong.

I like Merry and Maribel. But Merrily is just too........ evangelical or soemthing.

Meredith is much nicer.

mummygobrumbrum · 07/08/2009 21:30

I'd hope she wasn't fond of a tipple as an adult. Doesn't sound like a real name.

Caitni · 07/08/2009 21:31

This was the name of the lovely American lady who made our wedding cake when we got married in Pennsylvania. I think it sounds lovely but agree with others that it's better as a pet name/nick name for Meredith so that your DD would have the choice when she was older...

BakewellTarts · 07/08/2009 21:32

Merrily a bit too much of a virtue name for me. Problematic if DC doesn't live up to it IYSWIM.

A very good friends DD is called Merial, Meri for short...I think its lovely and really suits her.

Love Meredith and if we didn't already know a Meri then DD2 might have ended up with this name.

MaggieBeauVirgo · 07/08/2009 21:32

Meredith Lydia?????? = Merrily

sunshinejanuary · 07/08/2009 21:35

I have to say i hadn't really thought of it as a virtuous name, i think we just liked the way it sounded when we said it!

No it's awful. It's a name for a pony not a child.

Meredith is much nicer.
