ooh i really like Myla, it just... grabbed me! mmm yes Myla

love the others too, although i like Kara with a C

norktasticninja · 03/08/2009 20:26

Yes, I really like Myla too, never heard it before but it definitely gets my vote.

jkklpu · 03/08/2009 20:30

Maya or Martha for me - both lovely

maggievirgo · 03/08/2009 20:33

Martha is the nicest. I know a couple of Maias, Mayas, Mias...

Kara I like, but I prefer Clara. Although Kara is quite nice.

Myla confuses me. It's OK. It's grown on me a bit since I first read your list a minute ago.

Martha though!

jellybeans · 03/08/2009 20:35

I love Myla. Think it may be popular though soon, I know 2 baby Mileys too.

stubbyfingers · 03/08/2009 20:36

Another vote for Myla here too - lovely soft sounds that feel nice to say too.

thisisyesterday · 03/08/2009 20:37

maggievirgo that happened to me with Myla too.
I glanced at the list and kind of thought hmm, don't like that. then i said it in my head and thought actually.. and now i love it! lol

Tortington · 03/08/2009 20:37

they are al kinda pretentious apart from martha - which is just ugly

MrsBadger · 03/08/2009 20:38

MArtha is lovely
Cara with a C is also splendid

Myla I could take or leave - sounds a bit made-up (but I am a traditionalist)

pania · 03/08/2009 20:40

I like Maya and Martha, but not Myla.

It makes me think of Mylar (plastic sheeting).

drzoolander · 03/08/2009 20:42

Thank you everyone, some really interesting thoughts. Do you think Martha will become very popular with older names making a comeback?
Also, with Myla - Roger Federer recently named his daughter this. Liked it before but now worried this might increase popularity...??

Martha is already pretty popular - was 86th last year (ie below Eve but above Rose)

Ladyem · 04/08/2009 09:51

Martha, Martha, Martha!!! I LOVE it!!!
I'd love to my baby Martha if she turns out to be a girl, but DH is set on Harriet!! Can't talk him out of it at all!!

Others are pretty, but Don't like Myla as it sounds a bit made up.

pasturesnew · 04/08/2009 10:03

Kara - Kara "Starbuck" Thrace is a good character in Battlestar Galactica, I'd prefer Cara - nice name.

Maya - nice, true that it will get pronounced either as My-a or May-a but lots of names are like this, it wouldn't put me off

Martha - my fave from this list

Myla - this is a brand of fancy knickers www.mylausa.com/ which I find a slightly disturbing connotation for a young girl, sorry!

drzoolander · 04/08/2009 19:14

Yeah the knickers connection has concerned my husband! Am thinking Myla is out, in the middle of the night I suddenly got the name confused with Myra, thinking of Myra Hindley. That has very much put me off!!
