My DH and I are looking for a girl's name that works across our mixed Asian-Western cultures. What do you think of the following in England?

Amalie
Nara
Naraya
Siriya
Siri
Ammara
Lalana

Love Naraya and Ammara, the other names are okay but them two stuck out for me. Simple yet uncommon

meemarsgotabrandnewbump · 29/07/2009 17:01

love Naraya, very pretty

ForExample · 29/07/2009 17:04

I like Siri the best.

I think Amalie would meet a lot of miss-spelling and also (possibly) an assumption that you had gone for a unique version of Amelie

HerHonesty · 29/07/2009 18:37

amalie is a bit "surrey" iykwim... lalana doesnt tickle me. all the others are very nice, think naraya is particularly special.

janeite · 29/07/2009 18:42

I like Nara and Siri best from your list and don't like Lalana at all.

ohfuschia · 29/07/2009 20:15

My favourite from the list is Siri

MrsMattie · 29/07/2009 20:16

Naraya and Ammara are lovely.

itchyandscratchy · 29/07/2009 20:17

Siri is lovely.

My niece (half Indian half English) is called Nia which has really grown on me.

SixtyFootDoll · 29/07/2009 20:19

Siri is really pretty

claireybee · 29/07/2009 20:19

I like Naraya best of those

Megglevache · 29/07/2009 21:41

I love all of them what about
Amba
Nina
Madhu
Lila

Not that yours aren't lovely of course!

BakewellTarts · 29/07/2009 21:45

I love Asian names and think yours are lovely.

Not on your list but DD1's best best friend is called Pritika which means beloved in Hindu which I think is beautiful (plus shes a really nice little girl).

hester · 29/07/2009 21:45

How about Jamila, Sita, Sijia?

skybright · 29/07/2009 22:01

I love the name Priya, very pretty.

BrigitBigKnickers · 29/07/2009 22:36

Hawah (Islamic version of eve) is lovely.

Amra and Imma are also very pretty.

noodlemum · 30/07/2009 06:34

We're going for Thai origin names, so some of the suggestions don't work that well in Thai - BUT Priya, Amra (could be same origin as Ammara, I think), Lila might work...

I think Siri/Naraya are the best too...

Thanks all...

I like Naraya too for the record

I was thinking about trying to find a mixed name for DS2 as well (also Thai/British) but havent even managed to find a British one. Seriously struggling!

Megglevache · 30/07/2009 10:26

Siri is dleightful, so pretty.

Firawla · 31/07/2009 12:40

noodlemum · 07/08/2009 15:36

Off the topic, lynniep,

how about Kiran, Nat, Niran? All Thai names that could work in English...
