Nervous about the name!

So DH and I have been really struggling with a name for our first baby boy due September. Friends and family have hated all the names that we have shared so far and so we are keeping this one to ourselves as we have fallen in love with it!

I'm a bit nervous to even say it out loud but am curious to test it out and I wonder what everyone thinks on here?

It's Bhodi. We'd call him Bo fo short. Our last name is a real tongue twister- quite Germanic with harsh T and K sounds so we needed something soft and short...

Thank you!

I like it!

Do you mean Bodhi?

jkklpu · 25/07/2009 19:39

what's the origin? looks as though it could be South Asian; on the other hand, it also looks as though it could be made-up

BitOfFun · 25/07/2009 19:39

Love Bo. What does Bhodi mean?

girlandboy · 25/07/2009 19:39

How do you pronounce it?

Boddy or
Bow-di

DebiNewberry · 25/07/2009 19:40

I like it.

Is Patrick Swayze called Bhodi in Point Break?

BitOfFun · 25/07/2009 19:41

It's very distinctive, isn't it? He won't just be any Bodhi then...

VickyHart · 25/07/2009 19:42

Bhodi is Indian I believe. Yes, there is a spelling Bodhi, again, we love the spelling bhodi, like a Bhodi tree, but perhaps that's just ridiculous too. Can you tell my confidence on this subject is not great!

I really think it is spelt Bodhi and that i like....bhodi doesn't look right to me....i think the patrick swayze character is called Bodhi yes....

LynetteScavo · 25/07/2009 19:43

I like Bhodi - don't like Bo too much, but hey.

Just don't tell your family untill you've registered!

VickyHart · 25/07/2009 19:44

Arrrgh, you're right, point break- grrrr I must have stored that in my subconcious because we love the film! Well spotted DebiNewberry. Actually, I like it a little more now but yes, perhaps Bodhi is kinder!

Bow-de would be the pronunciation.

I like it BitOfFun

Actually I prefer Bohdi.

VickyHart · 25/07/2009 19:45

i love it and i love Bo.
I had Beau/Bo on my list for ds3, but dp didn't like it

prefer the spelling Bodie or Bodhi i think

tummytickler · 25/07/2009 19:55

Bodhi is nice.
Buddha was sitting under the Bodhi tree when he became enlightened which i think is a lovely association.

mrswill · 25/07/2009 19:56

am usually not a fan of unusual names, but i love it! Bow-dee, hmmm i may just pinch it...

VickyHart · 25/07/2009 19:58

Thanks everyone, you're all so lovely- mmmm, I'm going to find a Bodhi hater now!

Mrs Will you're welcome to pinch it, as long as your chap doesn't go to school with ours

A nice unusual name like the spelling Bodie or Bodhi better though

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 25/07/2009 20:01

It makes me think of The Professionals.

Quite like it though.

mumofmaniacs · 25/07/2009 20:05

I'm not a fan of unusual names and wasn't keen when I read the OP but it only took 20 posts for it to actually grow on me!

Having not heard the name before I think that if you read Bhodi or Bodie it creates the pronounciation you are after. If I saw Bodhi written down I would want to say Bod-hi.

VickyHart · 25/07/2009 20:06

Good point mumof maniacs
