Different spellings of Isabelle

I like the name Isabelle but there are so many different ways of spelling it - Isobel, Isabel, Isabelle etc.

In your experience, if your DD is called this, does it get annoying having to spell it every time or having the name spelt incorrectly?

Isabel.

This is a top du semain!

When I see Annabelle, Juliette, Isabelle (with all the extra unnecessary letters) I just know the Mum is going to be a bit saccharine, bit try-hard ...

MaggieLaVoleuse · 11/11/2009 08:57

I mean a topic du semain. Sorry

annamama · 11/11/2009 09:01

Thanks Sazisi Your answer is reassuring. Isabelle is top our list for DD due March.

Maggie, for some reason I agree with you re Annabel, but Isabel and Juliet I'm not so keen on! Like I said before, where I'm from we always use the spelling Isabelle, so a different spelling would cause a slight problem there.

I picked up on this old thread because I was wondering about the pronounciation of Isabelle/Isabel, anyone else pronounce them differently, or the same?

teameric · 11/11/2009 09:20

my niece is Isobel

mrleebob · 11/11/2009 10:03

Isobel is the name I'm pushing for...

KERALA1 · 11/11/2009 14:38

Isabel/Isobel/Isabella etc are lovely names but very very very popular. If this bothers you don't use it!

newgirl · 11/11/2009 14:41

My isabel is 7 and i havent had huge problems having to spell her name to others but i think that issue only really comes in when they are adults over the phone - hey that might be extinct by then!

i think now we book classes over the internet etc spelling out loud might become less of an issue anyway.

birdofthenorth · 11/11/2009 14:47

I prefer Isobel but that's my Scottish roots I think!

SecretSlattern · 11/11/2009 14:49

I worked in a school where the name was spelt Izzabelle

cremeeggs · 11/11/2009 15:01

Maggie my DD's an Isabelle but I would hope i'm not being called saccharine and try-hard behind my back !!! We went for that spelling as it was the only form we could both agree on and we have a French connection too. It seems to be the most popular spelling in these parts too.

qumquat · 12/11/2009 18:48

Isobel is by far my favourite spelling, no contest. I'd have though "Isobel with an o/a/lle" was easy enough to saym just like saying Katherine with a C/K, so I don't thik it should be a problem.

Hanedpat3 · 19/12/2015 12:43

My DD2 is an Isobelle we love it as it is more unique. Her best friend is an Izabel and I think that is beautiful too :)

Izzy966 · 08/11/2020 18:56

I am British and my name is spelt Izabel (Portuguese spelling) I get called Izzy as a nickname and I prefer being called Izzy just because I dont like the bane Isabelle

mamablondie33 · 08/11/2020 18:58

If you don’t have strong feelings about the spelling then I would go with the most popular spelling nowadays (I believe it’s Isabelle) as that would probably be easiest for her.

june2007 · 08/11/2020 19:06

Yes def one where you will have to keep spelling it as so many different versions. Also how will it be shortened, belle, bella, Izzy, dizzy, Izzwizz. ??

Namechange8471 · 08/11/2020 19:44

It's a lovely name, i prefer Isobel.

I think the many spelling variations are all really nice, none seem 'yoonique' or made up.

Othet variations i like:

Isabelle
Isabel
Isobelle

Zombie thread. OP's dd is 11 now, I think she's going to have decided how to spell her name.

Oneandabean · 08/11/2020 22:35

My DD is Isabelle and it doesn’t bother me spelling it out, she corrects people if they spell it wrong. Isabelle is the only spelling that looks right to me and that sounds right. They’re all said slightly differently

Walkerbean16 · 09/11/2020 01:30

I have an Isabelle, its only been spelt wrong a couple of times, not really been an issue for us. I love the name.

Walkerbean16 · 09/11/2020 01:31

Oops I've just seen the date!
