Mariann as a middle name

Haribosmummy · 23/07/2009 20:45

I'd really like to use Mariann as a middle name for DD...

But, short lists for first names are:

Imogen (fave so far)
Emily
Amelia
Millicent

None of them really 'go' with Mariann, do they?

What first names DO go with Mariann, or do you think it doesn't really matter?

THANKYOU!

Well, Amelia Mariann would be v goth. Not sure if that's a good thing from your POV or not!

FurryFox · 23/07/2009 20:54

I like the name Mariann and I think Imogen Mariann does go.

I have an Imogen Anne (Anne is a family name)

Haribosmummy · 23/07/2009 20:55

raven - why is Amelia Mariann goth?? (I need a clueless emoticon here, dont i?)

Furry - thanks... MAybe I will run the suggestion past my DH!

Imogen Marianne (I personally like the extra Jane Austen 'e') is lovely. Choose it!

Mummyisamonster · 23/07/2009 21:05

Imogen Mariann = lovely!

jkklpu · 23/07/2009 21:07

Emily
it's usually Marian or Marianne - any particular reason why you've gone for Mariann?

PinkyMinxy · 23/07/2009 21:08

I have an Imogen and her middle name is similar to Marian- Martha Ann and I think it's lovely.

WarhammerFan · 23/07/2009 21:15

Shouldn't it be Marianne? With an e on the end. Like Marianne Dashwood in Austen's P & P?

janeite · 23/07/2009 21:19

LOVE Marianne (it deffo needs the 'Austen-E' though).

Imogen Marianne sounds okay, although a bit 'mmm-y'

How about:
Elizabeth Marianne
Isobel Marianne
Cecily Marianne
Charlotte Marianne

Or go totally Austen and have Elinor Marianne!

From your list, I think Emily is nicest.

Heated · 23/07/2009 21:19

Right name Warhammer although S&S, I think. But agree totally re spelling, unless OP has a reason for choosing Mariann. The Marianne spelling lessens visually the impact of all the Ns.

janeite · 23/07/2009 21:20

S&S - yes, not P&P.

Yes I like Mariann (e) but it definately needs the E at the end- a la Dashwood.

Emily Marianne is very nice - feminine and gentle. I think it goes well.

Haribosmummy · 23/07/2009 21:48

Well, I did have reasons for choosing Mariann, but I think seeing it written down, it does look nicer, more balanced, spelt Marianne.

I'm afraid Janeite your suggestions (though lovely) are all out.
Elizabeth is DSD1's middle name
Isobal is DSD's first name
Cecily is not liked by my DH (though I did suggest it be shortened to Lilly)
CHarlotte - we have LOTS of friends with Charlies / Lotties!!

I think, if you think it sounds OK, then I will try to persuade DH to go with Imogen Marianne.

We seem to like similar names! Lily is v nice.

ravenAK · 23/07/2009 22:16

Haribosmummy - Amelia is a song by the Mission, Marian by The Sisters of Mercy! Both '80s goth bands .

Well, I like it...

Haribosmummy · 23/07/2009 22:18

Haha! Thanks raven... I was a child of the 80s but more into AHA, Bros and Wham...

Oh the SHAME
