I'm really struggling with a boys name - everything i like, he doesn't and vice versa.

Yes. Know a really nice Julian, and it's a name that doesn't date/rank you

skihorse · 21/07/2009 09:13

In our house Julian was the WORST boy's name we could come up with and I refer to our unborn son as Julian just to tease OH.

MovingOutOfBlighty · 21/07/2009 09:15

My DP is Julian. It is such a terrible name but I love the shortening Jules, that is what he is known by.

When he was in the playground at school, his friend Luke got to be Luke Skywalker. His friend William was Will Scarlet. Both cool 'superheroes'.
Jules had to be Julian from the Famous 5 whos only power was the ablilty to drink ginger beer. Scarred him for life.

skihorse · 21/07/2009 09:28

MovingoutofBlight hahaha! That's more fiendish than any mean rhyming slang teasing associated with "unusual" names!

kitsmummy · 21/07/2009 10:03

effeminate. Seriously, Julian is an awful name

belgo · 21/07/2009 10:04

awful.

LouMacca · 21/07/2009 10:37

Love Jules. Julian is a definite NO.

hobbgoblin · 21/07/2009 10:39

Yes, is very effeminate imo.

Thespian mincing kind of name.

suwoo · 21/07/2009 10:42

I really hate it. Sorry

Deemented · 21/07/2009 10:44

I appreciate your honesty - i'm just throwing names around at the moment, i just can't seem to find one that 'grabs' me, yunno?

Yes, I think Julian is a nice name - I know several little boys called Julien here in Paris.

Dumbledoresgirl · 21/07/2009 10:45

I quite like it. I wouldn't go so far as to pick it, but I much prefer it to modern popular boys' names (which I won't mention for fear of upsetting posters).

BonsoirAnna · 21/07/2009 10:46

I think it has the virtue of being quite traditional but not very widespread. Timeless.

Thunderduck · 21/07/2009 11:57

Love it.

Tamlin · 21/07/2009 12:35

We called DS Jolyon after speaking to two adult Julians who hated their name. (Apparently the combination of the Famous Five's 'Julian's very grown up for his age' Julian with Julian Clary was a lot to live down at school.)

MamaLazarou · 21/07/2009 12:36

It's OK - it particularly suits gay men.

Prefer Julius or Jules.

crikey....where is my brain at....what i meant was i SECOND julius....

maggievirgo · 21/07/2009 22:08

I like it. There is a gorgeous one in my son's school. But I prefer Julius.... Julius is spectacular though. That would be a hard name for an ordinary man.
