Indian Name Neha

We wish to name our daughter after my M-I-L who is called Neha. She & we are Muslim, do you think that it is acceptable? It is a sanskrit name but do people think of it as Hindu? Regards.

There is a Neha in DS2's class. That's not much help to you because I have no idea whether she is Muslim, Hindu or something else entirely!

Would just assume 'generic Asian' but if it's named after a muslim lady, surely nobody can argue with it?
My favourite Sanskrit name is Shantih.

I definitely see this as a Hindu name, as I know 2 Hindu girls called Neha. Don't know of any Muslims called Neha, but don't let that stop you

I'm a Muslim and I would regard Neha as a Hindu name and therefore not acceptable. How did your MIL come to be called Neha?

how about Nuha if you want it to be more clearly muslim?
