any ideas?! Not keen on Elodie and, although I like them, Amelie and Emilie no good either ...

Melody/Melodie

That's it for now, will put my thinking cap on... (spent my whole pregnancies trying to think of names that DIDN'T end in -ie/y because of our surname so this is a good exercise for my tired old brain!)

Cecily

BonsoirAnna · 17/07/2009 10:05

Cécile is the French for Cecily and it is a horrible name in French!

MoChan · 17/07/2009 10:13

Why is Cecily a horrible name in French?

thirtysomething · 17/07/2009 10:16

Another vote for Aurelie (can't do the accents on my PC)

Other ideas 3 syllables but don't all end in 'ie':

Clementine
Eloise
Isabelle
Eleonore
Genevieve
Beatrice
Laetitia

Other pretty names - 2 syllables:

Laure
Clemence
Camille
Lea
Marise
Mathilde
Aline

celestine , celeste for short ?

BonsoirAnna · 17/07/2009 10:28

Céleste is not a shortened version of Célestine, though.

The reason I asked was because I was interested to know if Cecile was a generally reviled name in France, or something, because of some sort of connotation attached to it, or if it's just your opinion that it's horrible.

sophiesmummie · 17/07/2009 10:31

Cecile/Cecilia means 'blind' so not a very nice meaning .

BonsoirAnna · 17/07/2009 10:32

Cécile is a very traditional Catholic bourgeois name that is not on the up in France.

hf128219 · 17/07/2009 10:43

And what's wrong with that? No different than being in UK and calling a girl Margaret.

BonsoirAnna · 17/07/2009 10:45

Cécile and Cecily are not on the same register. They are not equivalent names in French and English. So a bit hard.
