Tintin - what is short for?

Read this name recently on a list at dd's school and keep wondering what it might be short for?

It's cute for a little boy (or a dog ), but not sure how suitable it is for a grown man. So, any ideas what could it be short for?

I don't think Tintin is short for anything. I think it is just not western in origin. Although, I could be wrong as I have never actually asked her about the origins of her name.

I know a Martin who was called Tintin when he was small. I can also imagine Quentin being shortened to Tintin. So, it could possibly a nickname for any -tin ending (or starting) name...

Was a girl in dd3's class known as Tintin all through school. Her real name is Zoe though.
