Just been reading all these with interest

How about pushing for William with the shortened form of Liam?

Liam O'Dwyer

I think it sounds good. I grew up with a couple of Liams and they were always the fit, fanciable, strong boys!

Caleb?

Jacob (Jake for short)

My father's name is Norman - Granny and Grandad argued bitterly over that, and my Grandad always insisted on calling him BILL for WILLIAM!

pscc · 11/07/2009 16:15

we have same surname- called our little boy connor, eventhough he looks like a thomas- but you already have a thomas!
Good luck whatever you chose!

bargainhuntingbetty · 11/07/2009 16:28

Do we have a name yet>??

Blottedcopybook · 11/07/2009 20:41

Rowan? I think Rowan O'Dwyer sounds lovely and it fits with Thomas and Ellen?

My daughters were going to be called either Eric or Jonah if they'd been boys, if that helps

Blottedcopybook · 11/07/2009 20:42

Ooh! What about Fintan?

TheNatty · 11/07/2009 20:42

yeah we are going with...

Charles William O'Dwyer
(charlie to u and me tho )

DH was being stubborn about using charles and he doesnt like it, but i have put my foot down (well i said its charles or william pick cos we are chosing right now!)

louismummy - she's decided on the name Charles (Charlie) William

Blottedcopybook · 11/07/2009 22:12

Lovely choice

slowreadingprogress · 11/07/2009 22:52

lovely!

squidlet · 12/07/2009 06:49

Glad baby now has a name and its a beautiful name.

Now enjoy him!!

AvengingGerbil · 12/07/2009 15:32

Glad you've chosen; probably too late to mention now, but with a surname like O'Dwyer, both Charles and William are distinctly Anglo/protestant names: is this an issue for DH?

TheNatty · 12/07/2009 19:29

no why would it?

OP posts:
AvengingGerbil · 12/07/2009 19:42

Just that not many Irish Catholics call their sons Oliver or William for historical reasons. Sorry if my query was inappropriate.

TheNatty · 12/07/2009 19:57

i am a broad minded catholic
and so is my DH

OP posts:
idunnop · 13/07/2009 07:23

DH and his family are Irish Catholic and we're planning on William - hadn't occurred to me (or DH) it would be a problem. And Liam is an Irish short form.

idunnop · 13/07/2009 07:28

Trying to think of famous examples... how about Charles Haughie, former Irish Prime Minister? Must be plenty of others I'm sure.
