I know of an australian girl called Marlo. Actually, Marlo-Kitty. I quite like it.

Three babies born to colleagues recently:

Juniper (girl)
Osha (boy - not sure of sp?)
Seren (girl - Welsh apparently)

simplesusan · 09/07/2009 22:19

I love Gabriel.
The other 2 are both ok.

bleh · 09/07/2009 23:02

This is theGabriel song I LOOOOVE [shameless promotion emoticon]

WesternBelle · 09/07/2009 23:12

Love Gabriel and Primrose. Don't get Marlo though.

WesternBelle · 09/07/2009 23:13

Once saw a picture in a magazine a few years ago, with a little girl called Shania Swain....

ohfuschia · 10/07/2009 00:30

bleh, love that song, am expecting a boy 20th this month and have played it so much during the pregnancy that I can think of no other name that would suit him. Have loved the name for a long time anyway, having met the most charismatic 7 yr old Gabriel about 15 years ago who remained unknowingly cool and although I've looked at all sides of possible teasing (have an unusual name myself which could be awkward at introductions at school but would not change for the world) every time that song comes on my ipod it just seems right

For me the other 2 names are ok - don't dislike them but not mad about them either - I do know a Marlo(w) but not a Primrose (reminds me of Darling Buds of May)

janeite · 10/07/2009 00:34

Love Gabriel. Am surprised to say that having seen this, I rather like Primrose.

Don't like Marlo much.

thumbwitch · 10/07/2009 00:38

my DN1(5yo) has a Shania in her class, presumably after the singer.

I like Primrose but more for cows than children - but wasn't one of the girls in Ballet Shoes called that? Or perhaps it was Darling Buds of May... something, anyway.

Gabriel - well I always think of Gabriel Byrne and nn would be Gabe (I'm sure there used to be an Ancient in the Archers called Gabriel as well..)

Marlo - no. Sounds like a typical Aussie shortening of something longer though.

janeite · 10/07/2009 00:38

Posy in Ballet Shoes.

thumbwitch · 10/07/2009 00:40

ta janeite - couldn't quite remember them!
(and I didn't see ohfuschia's post before I posted mine)

ohfuschia · 10/07/2009 00:48

Not sure my DP's fully convinced I'm not thinking of Gabriel Byrne either, thumbwitch

MamaLazarou · 10/07/2009 08:19

Gabriel = the frog from Bagpuss

Primrose = Harold Shipman's wife

Marlo is quite nice, though. It sounds a bit 'unfinished'.

piscesmoon · 10/07/2009 08:31

I think that Gabriella is nicer for a girl. Primrose is more a cows name and Marlo sounds made up.

dottyaboutstripes · 10/07/2009 12:21

I have a Gabriel and he SO suits his name, golden curls and dimples, a real cherub I absolutely love this name!

I also have an Arlo, but never heard of Marlo, it just sounds a bit wrong, but maybe that's because I am used to Arlo???

Primrose? Not keen. In general I like "old lady" names but not this time

benfmsmum · 10/07/2009 12:30

Old ladies have to be babies at some point though!

benfmsmum · 10/07/2009 12:32

Seren means star in welsh

Marlo's not made up. There was an American actress in the 60s - surname escapes me now - called Marlo-something...

I think it's cute

MrsMattie · 10/07/2009 17:05

Gabriel is lovely.

Marlo is horrid.

Primrose is a dog's name.

MissyH · 10/07/2009 18:29

My Gabriel is beautiful... (not that I am biased or anything!) All comments on his name have been positive ones...

screamingabdab · 10/07/2009 18:51

I love Gabriel, but it was vetoed for DSs 1 and 2.

Primrose is fine for an ickle girl, but (sorry) IMO ridiculous for an adult.

Don't like Mario

screamingabdab · 10/07/2009 18:53

Sorry, it's Marlo . Sounds made up. I did consider Carlo for DS2 (Italian version of Charles), but since no Italian in the family, thought people would take the piss

Gateau · 15/07/2009 10:24

I have ALWAYS loved Gabriel. DH wouldn't have it for DS, but I am working on him for DC - if of course we have another little boy. But maybe it's gaining too much in popularity; is it?
Do you think a Gabriel would get teased at school for being girlie, gay or whatever??!
Isn't/wasn't there a Marlo in Emmerdale?
