Do you think it matters if a name makes everyone think of a particular film immediately?

A man turned up at toddler group the other day and introduced his DD as 'Arwen' and the immediate response was 'like in Lord of the Rings?'
I thought 'god he must find that annoying' but on second thoughts maybe he likes it as he obviously must have named her with the lord of the rings in mind...

Also saw a guy in the street with long black leather jacket on calling after a little girl 'Trinity... come back here'...

What do we think?

Speaking of Hannibal, does anyone else think it's a bit too much of a coincidence that he grew up to be a cannibal? (Yes, I know it is fiction, but it's stretching the imagination somewhat, is it not?)

PIMP, Mollyroger!

Agree with others depends on the film/name. There are some names that are just totally inseparable from their fictional characters. I actually love Arwen, and I grew up with a girl named Trinity long before the Matrix movies.

Then there are names that have two different assocations - like Lara (Tomb Raider or Dr Zhivago!?!?!) Unfortunately depends on your audience as to what they take away from hearing the name...!

I think the film for Arwen. Though it sounds it I'm not actually sure Arwen is a welsh name. I may bewrong. Just be thankful its Arwen not Arwyn

A friend of mine is Lorien, and he would say, 'yes, from the film' in an exasperated tone.

I think I'd think Arwen was Welsh. Is it? When I hear Trinity I just think, college. I would always expect Trinity to be a dark haired, naughty Catholic girl.
