Poll: Lucca or Luca?

I prefer Luca but have heard of Lucca. Don't want to spell my baby's name 'wrong'.

Either way it's Italian for 'Light'.

Luca is quite common up here now - prefer it spelt Luca too

Luca. I would assume that spelled with a double C, it would be pronounced 'Loo-cha'.

Lulubee- does he like his name? Does anyone ever say it wrong or take the mickey or anything? I'm not telling anyone my baby names this time, made that mistake last time, so thought I best come and see if I was picking a sensible name on MN

Lucca is a town in tuscany. the proper spelling is LUCA. Luka is the serbo-croat version. incidentaly the italian word for light is LUCE (but it's a feminine noun, so don't get funny ideas :-))

I think it depends on how you want it to be pronounced. Luca is Luke-a. I think Lucca would be Look-a with a short u sound.

Eother of them sound liek a girl's name to me. In English, names ending in a are almost invariably girls.

Lucca is a lovely town to visit! It has actually been given as a name in Italy, but only to 7 girls, in between 1908 and 1936, and 99 boys over the last century.

302235 Italian baby boys were named Luca in the C20th on the other hand. It's got nothing at all to do with light, but comes from Luke the Evangelist who was of Syrian origin, and spoke Greek.

As long as you do not pronounce the name as "lewka" I have to keep correcting people.

Hi there,

this is Luca from Italy. DO NOT call your son "Lucca".

Most European know "Luca" which is the correct spelling, at the same time many European know about "Lucca" which is a city located in Tuscany.

Can you imagine if an Italian would call his son Las Vegas just to be original LoL

Another suggestion, if you plan to give an Italian name to your son, you should always talk to Italians to avoid errors.

I don't see Italian speakers above, but likely they advices you correctly. It could have gone the other way.
