HELP! I thought it was a DD- alas it is rather clearly all boy

Hello, so I've still got a little way to go yet but I was convinced I was having a girl, but in my scan it was abundantly clear it would be a boy.

I do not have a clue what to call it, and would like opinions?

So far

James
Nicholas
Lucian/Lucien
Theodore
Joshua

er.. but I don't actually love any of them. DH says Nicholas sounds like 'knickerless'?!

His favourite is James but it reminds me of 'jamon' and although I like it, I don't love it.

Help!!!

slowreadingprogress that's hilarious. He tends to refer to labour as 'minor discomfort' so I think he can have a James when he grows it,gives birth to it, then breastfeeds it for a year, changes its nappies and picks it up off a shop floor screaming.

oh yes, I agree sock!!! you go girl....minor discomfort...oh my goodness

Tell your DH that the Jewish form of Joshua is "Yeshua". (The Hebrew form of James is Yaacob) Yes, Jaacob and Yeshua sound Jewish as are Hebrew names, but neither James nor Joshua do.

If I were you, I'd say a complete "no" to James, as all the time he thinks its still an option he won't consider seriously anything else. Tell him "James makes a lovely middle name" (which it does)!

Cistus · 26/06/2009 23:00

Looshun - (Lucien) is cool

Tristan
Jonah
Jonas
Christian

Babbity · 26/06/2009 23:02

I love love love Nicholas. If we ever had a DS3 he'd be Nicholas James.

Clary · 27/06/2009 00:44

sockmonster James is a fine name but (round here at least) it is very popular. In 30 seconds I have thought of 10 that I know between 5yo and 10yo.

Just in case that bothers you - it's a good name tho!

sockmonster · 27/06/2009 06:50

Thanks for your advice! Hmm..... I don't hate James but don't want it as a first name- I think I have known too many annoying ones!!

I will keep up the search!

Did they actually tell you it was a boy? I ask because I had a late scan, saw willy, balls the lot, went on at considerable length about the boyness of him and 2 weeks later Grace was born, and I realized why everyone in the room was laughing at me!

AnathemaDevice · 27/06/2009 20:41

Nicholas is a great name, I've got a 12 week old one, known as Nicky at the moment.
James is ok, maybe you could shorten it to Jim/Jimmy?
Laurence is good, names I considered but were vetoed by DH were Rufus, Thomas, Liam and Jude.

boodleboot · 27/06/2009 20:54

I vote for James altho i am head over heels in love with Hugh Laurie...i prefer Hugh or Huey to Laurie...I have a James and he is gorgeous. In fact every James i have ever known has been gorgeous. However i must confess that our james is more commonly known as Bob....

sockmonster · 28/06/2009 21:46

Thanks for suggestions! I think Laurie may be confused with Lorry so it's Nicholas or James, or something shiny and new that I will love...??

seeker that's hilarious! The sonographer said '95 percent boy' in a side-on shot but didn't get another view despite trying for a long time...

Ah well he will be a boy in girls clothes for a while! I was so sure of girlyness! Poor kid!!

I've got

Tristan
Ewan
Jonathan (who's middle name is Francis which I wish I'd used as his first name and called him Frankie)

I have an adopted son who's name is completely off the wall - Quayone (kee-own) but I didn't get any choice in that one (obviously) it came with him

James is nice, and universally popular.

TwoSunnyDays · 29/06/2009 13:00

Alexander James
Edward Nicholas
James Alexander

I really like Nicholas James, they go well together and may grow on you.

iMum you're right, sounds bad, though I am now actually warming to the idea of a little boy, instead of being horrified at the prospect! Was unprepared for the news but yeah, not bad.

re names I have less idea than ever! So many suggestions thank you all, I shall go away and come up with final shortlist and ask what you think of it.

Don't know what I'd call it without help!! thank you!
