Miriam, lovely
Manon, lovely (if you have French links, otherwise might seem a little random)
Marion, no

Sarah Jessica Parker has just named her daughter Marion if that's of interest ?

jumpjockey · 24/06/2009 14:54

migola - sounds perfect then I have a friend with a French wife and their Manon is a little darling.

differentID · 24/06/2009 15:00

Miriam fabulous
Manon fabulous
Marion? middle aged.

Ondine · 24/06/2009 15:03

How is Manon pronouced?

If you have French links then Mireille is very nice.

Not that keen on Miriam, seems quite plain.

Marion is a bit dated, though now SJP daughter is named this it will have a revival. Personally I think Marianne or Marianna are classier versions.

Mammina · 24/06/2009 15:04

ok so Marion is now off the list!

what is Manon likely to be shortened to though? Man?!

ondine, Manon is pronounced MA NON. I actually prefer the way the French pronounce it (i.e. they sort of drop the last 'n') but I would feel so pretentious doing that!

I like Miriam. And Miri as a NN is very sweet.

Ondine · 24/06/2009 15:37

Thanks migola, was wondering if the last n was voiced.

To my non French / Welsh ears the ?man? part of the name does make it sound quite masculine. The French pronunciation is prettier, but I agree would feel a bit pretentious using it too.

sonniboo · 24/06/2009 21:35

Not keen on Marion or Miriam, but Manon is nice if you have French connections. I don't think you'd need to shorten it - it rolls off nicely off the tongue.

sazlocks · 24/06/2009 21:37

Manon is lovley IMO. The Manon I know is called Nonnie for short - very sweet.

GrimmaTheNome · 24/06/2009 21:41

Marianne or Marian look nicer than Marion.

I think they are all nice though.

Nighbynight · 24/06/2009 21:44

Manon is lovely, but there was a girl of that name in my childrens school in france, and I am ashamed to say that the dss went around mindlessly repeating Manon Is a Man the whole time, which would have been pretty annoying for her if she had understood it.

I have a friend who is Welsh who's DD is Manon and her nn is minnie which is very cute.

I don't personally like it as she has had problems even living in Wales with it. The children at school have teased her, calling her man or man on women! (A boy!!)
