Neila? I dont want to know whether you like the name or not, just how you would pronounce it...a mate said they would say: Nay-la

Nee-la here.

ninedragons · 22/06/2009 10:01

Neel-ah

fucksticks · 22/06/2009 10:01

Nee-la

GooseyLoosey · 22/06/2009 10:01

Like "Neil" but with an "a" on the end.

missblythe · 22/06/2009 10:01

Nay-la

stripeypineapple · 22/06/2009 10:02

Neel-a

Sort of femme form of Neil.

thell · 22/06/2009 10:03

My first reaction was Neela, but I can see why you might think Nayla - like Leila.

makingdotoo · 22/06/2009 10:03

Phew, thats how I would pronounce it too. Mate said it would be nay-la because 'ei' makes an 'ay' sound. Could kind of see her point, but would still say neel-a. Cheers.

Neil was my dads name, i am considering calling my baby Neila if it is a girl. Wasnt keen if the majority would say nay-lah.

KnickKnack · 22/06/2009 10:07

I'd say nee-la too

Tambajam · 22/06/2009 10:13

I'd say Neila - rhymes with Sheila. I can't think of a word where ei makes an ay sound. Am I being very dim?

makingdotoo · 22/06/2009 10:16

Rein? Reign? Thats all I can think of really. Feign? Funny one isnt it.

Leila?

annasmami · 22/06/2009 10:21

In German -ei- is pronounced -ay-, so perhaps the same is the case in other languages. In that case Neila or Leila are pronouced Nayla or Layla.

seeker · 22/06/2009 10:26

I'd say Nay-la because of Leila.

EyeballsandherSunburntNorks · 22/06/2009 10:28

Neila like Leila.

TheOtherMaryPoppinsDiets · 22/06/2009 10:29

Nay-la

makingdotoo · 22/06/2009 10:30

So would you pronounce neil as nail?

OP posts:
thedolly · 22/06/2009 10:32

'Nee-la' but I had to think about it.

seeker · 22/06/2009 10:37

No - I'd pronounce Neil as Neel - but Neila as Nayla. Simply because the only name I can think of like it is Leila - which IS Layla! If you see what I mean!

bigstripeytiger · 22/06/2009 10:43

Nee-la

makingdotoo · 22/06/2009 10:44

bizarre isnt it. I can understand why people would say neil, but still nayla. I will have to think hard about it, dont really want to saddle my child with a name people dont know how to spell.

OP posts:
seeker · 22/06/2009 10:47

Why not save Neil for a boy? Or did your father have a second name?

makingdotoo · 22/06/2009 11:06

He did. Maxwell, my name is a form of it so it couldnt be used again. Well i wouldnt want it to.

This is my last baby, i already have two girls and boy. For some reason i suspect this one will be a girl, but if it is a boy it will be neil. It is also definately my last baby as hubby is going to be neautered after it arrives

I used to work with a Neila - she pronounced it Nee-lah.
