I am now counting down the days and we still haven't decided on names

The short list is

boy:
Ewen
Fraser
Innes

Girl:
Eve/Evie/Evelyn/Eveline - I really like this name but am worried it is very popular and a bit too of the moment
Martha
Elsa
Esther

Let me know what you think. Its really the girls names I am struggling with. I already have an Anna which I love because it a classic timeless name. Any other suggestions?

I love Ewen and Marhta. Lovely names

Nancy66 · 15/06/2009 10:36

Isn't Innes a girl's name?

seeker · 15/06/2009 10:40

I think the girl's name is Inez.

Martha is wonderful.

Sunshinemummy · 15/06/2009 10:47

I know a little boy called Innis. I think it's lovely. I also like Fraser.

I also know an Evie and a Martha. Of your girl's names I like Elsa the best. Although I also like Martha as it was my nan's name.

snechie · 15/06/2009 10:48

Ines is a spanish girls name but Innes is a scottish boys name. DH is scottish and is v keen on a scottish boys name. Innes is his choice - I'm not that keen as we live in England and I think it will always get mis-spelled

sunshine mummy I think you are right I think it is Innis rather than Innes

Ewen, Eve (biased!) and Martha.

snechie · 15/06/2009 10:51

see I can't even spell it myself!

sandra79 · 15/06/2009 11:08

Eve - also biased! and it goes well with anna

MaggieBee · 15/06/2009 11:18

I love Elsa and Martha. Your boys' names are a bit ooooooh. I quite like Fraser. Innes for a boy too feminine. Is Ewen the same as Ewan? I like Ewan. Ewen looks like Ewe. Innis is a cheap affordable scent. It is lovely though. Smells like the ocean

MaggieBee · 15/06/2009 11:20

Inis

(only one n)

jellybeans · 15/06/2009 12:45

I like these best

Ewen
Evie
Esther

nappyaddict · 15/06/2009 13:04

Martha is also very of the moment.

Evelyn is not that popular as long as you don't want to use the shortenings Evie or Eve. Surprisingly I know loads of Evie's and Eve's but no Evelyn's or Eva's.

19fran76 · 15/06/2009 13:43

Really like Innes. Eve/Martha both very popular so it depends if that is an issue for you. Like Esther.

dizzydixies · 15/06/2009 14:56

Innes is a boys name in Scotland and a lovely one at that

Anna and Evie are lovely but I would maybe give her Evelyn and nn Evie

lotspot · 15/06/2009 16:56

Fraser and Elsa
I dont really get the eve/evie/etc thing - its a fairly bland name(s) imo - sorry

goinslowlymad · 15/06/2009 19:50

Anna and Eve sounds too like Adam and Eve for me.
Fraser and Elsa.

yama · 15/06/2009 20:00

I like Euan and Evie. Both go with Anna.

audley · 15/06/2009 20:10

Fraser and Elsa are gorgeous imo

janeite · 15/06/2009 20:11

I really like Martha, which complements Anna v well.

Don't like any of the boys' names though, sorry.

silver28 · 15/06/2009 20:21

I like the name Fraser for a boy - would have seriously considered using it for my DS but DH wasn't keen as he had his heart set on something else.

I loved the name evelyn for a girl, which we would have shortened to Evie, but i have lost count of the number of babies i have met with this name in the 14 months since DS was born. The only name more common round here seems to be Ella (and variations thereof).

I really like the other girls names you have short listed. Have you also considered Lucy? Also fairly popular but also classic/timeless like Anna.

Servalan · 15/06/2009 20:31

Ewen is a great name (I personally like the Ewan spelling).

Love the name Eve - but not Evie
Also really like the name Martha

snechie · 15/06/2009 21:19

Thanks everyone.

Yes I have reservations about Anna and Eve sounding like Adam and Eve too.

Dh is insisting on the spelling Ewen although I prefer Ewan, he is a rubbish speller and says he will keep spelling in wrong if we spell it any other way

Lucy was on the long list and then got scrapped.

It wasn't this hard first time round!

Eve, Evie, Evelyn.. any of those are lovely and go so nicely with Anna
It may be a bit popular at the moment but its still classic.
Not too keen on any of the boys names personally and i thought Innes was a girls name too. From the options i would probably say Ewen?

secretgardin · 15/06/2009 21:38

a fiend of mine just named her dd elsie. i think it is lovely and old fashioned. haven't heard of any little girl with that name.
