I love the name Winona but DH thinks it's too unique to Ms Ryder.

If you do use it, everyone will assume that it was after her. You'll be sick of the 'Oh, as in Ryder' comments..

What does it mean? I like it.

Also like Ramona a lot, too.

bigchris · 08/06/2009 20:10

yes , sorry!

And Winona Judd

wolfear · 08/06/2009 20:37

I thought so. Bloody hell. I guess she could get stuck with Winnie too, which wouldn't be good. Ok - it's gone.

Winona Ryder is named after a town in the US, which itself is named after a Native American word

lastboxoftampons · 09/06/2009 11:31

Geographically, it's a very southern/country-western name in the US, and is in fact Native American. Would be common there, but here would probably only be associated with Winona Ryder. Ms Judd is spelt Wynonna (she and her mother Naomi are country singers, sister of actress Ashley)

Winona means first born daughter. i like it but i really like Winnie as a nickname too.

Tambajam · 09/06/2009 11:35

I think Winona Ryder is enough out of the picture you'd be fairly safe. You'd just have to hope she doesn't have a resurgence as a porn star or something.

There's Winona in the Rubbadubbers as well.
