It's a shortening for Sarah. Well, Sissy is so presume Cissy also. I'm quite fond of it for family reasons

Only as a nickname for Celia or Cecile or Cecelia. Even then I don't like it very much.

It Scotland (maybe everywhere?) it means coward. Cecily is lovely though imo.

My granny had a friend called Cissy. Rebecca is her real name. No idea where the nn comes from. She is 98.

I had a great aunty Cissy - I think she was Cicely.

DS2 calls his snuggly blanket Cissy now so that's what I always think of!

I think Billy and Cissy would be a bit of a mouthful TBH and everyone would be a bit when you told them your daughter was called basically an insult.

I have a Billy and a Cissy! (aka William and Celestine)

William is always Billy, and when Celeste (as most of us call her) was born, he pronounced it Cissy, and it has stuck. DH also calls her this most of the time. Our older daughter also has a name which is often shortened to end in an "ee" sound... kind of unplanned but these things just seem to stick in our family.

I've heard of a Cissy short for Cicely and a Sissy short for Isobel too.
