burningupinspeed · 07/06/2009 11:40

No.

Blackduck · 07/06/2009 11:42

as in short for phillip? My uncle (phillip) is called pip (think cos he was so small....)

wastingmyeducation · 07/06/2009 11:43

It's a nickname.

knickers0nmahead · 08/06/2009 00:11

my dog,s name.

thumbwitch · 08/06/2009 00:14

tis a nickname for Philip or Peregrine (the hobbit?), not a name in its own right plus really, why would you?
Especially if he turns out to be a 10lb bruiser who goes on to be an enormous 6'5" rugby playing type - I mean really, where can you go from "Pip"?

Rindercella · 08/06/2009 00:15

Nope. Very dated imo. Sort of like a 'hunk' from an 80s' Jilly Cooper shagfest novel.

thumbwitch · 08/06/2009 00:25

Also - it's what Derek Jacobi says about anything that happens in the Night Garden - "Isn't that a pip!"

steviesgirl · 08/06/2009 02:12

Lol!

nooka · 08/06/2009 04:04

Nice nickname. Silly given name

CarmenSanDiego · 08/06/2009 04:50

"My father?s family name being Pirrip, and my Christian name Philip, my infant tongue could make of both names nothing longer or more explicit than Pip. So, I called myself Pip, and came to be called Pip."

Opening line of Great Expectations.

I also think of the British exchange student in South Park based on the GE character. And everyone saying, "Shut up, Pip!" to him

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 08/06/2009 07:08

My bil is Philip and I always call him Pip as a term of affection, so I like the name

AuntyAnna · 08/06/2009 09:28

I love the name Pip! Ignore those who say no, when you give your child a name, it takes on a whole set of different connatations. And who cares what others think - go for it!

CornishKK · 09/06/2009 23:04

I love the name Pip, makes me think of a nice wholesome child but with an edge of cheekiness/naughtiness.

It made my short list, we're going for Ted instead.

KristinaM · 09/06/2009 23:06
