I wouldn't know that Deven was an indian name and would think you had spelled Devon wrong.

mrsbabookaloo · 07/06/2009 11:42

I think it's lovely. I like Devon anyway, but the alternative spelling is fine if that's how the hindu name is spelt (ie you're not just changing the spelling for the sake of it). It's great because it won't be difficult for people to pronounce.

MadameCastafiore · 07/06/2009 11:44

Agree with wasting - and think that even if you used Devon it sounds very common.

pranma · 07/06/2009 14:54

Devin with an i is a character in a wonderful book called Tigana.Devon Walsh is a famous cricketer.I like it-any spelling

We have exactly the same problem- plenty of gorgeous girl names. A few we have considered are Shayan, Eashan and Sameer. We'd also appreciate other suggestions.

Overmydeadbody · 09/06/2009 18:49

Gilby how anout Osian?

Northernlurker · 09/06/2009 18:52

I think it looks like you couldn't spell Devon. It's all a matter of the context in which it will be used isn't it - in India I expect friends and relatives of a 'Devon' - might be thinking 'oh dear, they obviously couldn't spell Deven'

Tigresswoods · 11/06/2009 08:05

I know a Deven who is a male Indianl bloke. I never realised it was a traditional Hindu name until now. I think it is a lovely name and would work in both cultures.

Mrswoolf, you surprise me......(the Knight Rider knowledge not the name opinion- too right you should be blushing Missy....)

Catz · 11/06/2009 08:17

I know a Devin from the US (with pretty much 100% anglo-saxon background as far as I can see).

lastboxoftampons · 11/06/2009 17:43

I totally agree with MrsBabookaloo.

gagamama · 12/06/2009 12:42

I really like it, and agree with MrsBabookaloo and lastboxoftampons. It will sound English to English people but Indian to Indian people - perfect for his cultural mix, I reckon.

Plus it's just a lovely name, IMO.

But isnt Devon (which is how Deven will be pronounced) usually a name given to girls?

mascaraohara · 12/06/2009 15:21

I know a Devon he is gorgeous. I think it's an 'up and coming' name iykwim.. give it a few years and they'll be quite a few.

Never heard of it as a girls name before.

thell · 17/06/2009 11:17

Lovely name, I don't think you should worry about it.
I agree with MrsBabookaloo too

stripeypineapple · 17/06/2009 11:20

I like it.
