Twas my mums name, she passed away 32 years ago.

I have 5 dc and we are ttc our last one. First born was a girl.

Now to be very honest, I'm really not keen on the name, I'd like to honour my mum and my 14 yr dd says, "you named ds2 after dh's dead dad so you should name a girl after your mum". Have explained that if i loved it, as my firstborn dd she would have been Penny.

Could probably grow to love it, I guess. We really struggled with dd3's name btw, but have agreed for a boy.

Thanks in advance, ( i think, )

I really like Penelope- Penny for short-

but I wouldn't use it if you don't like the name. As a middle name, perhaps?

I would say a definite yes if it's what you want- but if it's last dc then you should give it the name you like the best.

When DD gets older and has children she can name one of them Penny if she still feels the same!

liahgen · 02/06/2009 16:44

thanks sock, I guess she could. Evertime we have a girl, we have the discussion, and haven't used it yet, My mum would understand I'm sure.

Thing is it doesn't really go with much as a middle name..

suggestions perhaps?

I like Penelope but Penny leaves me cold tbh. It would be a nice middle name though?

Northernlurker · 02/06/2009 16:46

Harriet Penelope

Alice Penelope

Esther Penelope

Katherine Penelope

Maia Penelope

?

liahgen · 02/06/2009 16:48

3 dd's all end in Y or ie so dh would prefer another dd end in same way, >

I do know how you feel.

My mum died nearly 10 years ago (way before dc), and I have had similar feelings.

But there is no way that my children will be named after her (have had 2 dds now, and dh has mentioned it each time, and I just can't bring myself to do it to them)

my mum would have understood too.

silverfrog · 02/06/2009 16:49

FWIW, I really like Penelope/Penny - has been on our list both times.

Northernlurker · 02/06/2009 17:04

Harriet Penelope then - known as Hattie?

Or Henrietta Penelope known as Hettie

brimfull · 02/06/2009 17:05

nice

Megglevache · 02/06/2009 17:06

I LOVE it and Penelope. friends of mine have just had a baby girl and she was going to be Penlope all the way through and they changed their mind the second they saw her! Tsk

liahgen · 02/06/2009 17:07

Good luck ttc!

Hi Liaghen - I'm afraid I don't like Penny because it is my horrible ex-step mum's name, but I understand where you're coming from.

My mum died almost 20 years ago to the day that my DD was born. Her name is rather old fashioned and not one I'd use as a first name, but to honour her, and make her a part of the family she's missed out on, I've given DD this name as a middle name. I'm really pleased I did.

Thunderduck · 02/06/2009 21:00

I absolutely love it. I'm not normally a fan of nicknames but this is one of the few names where I prefer the nickname to the full name.

gegs73 · 02/06/2009 21:08

I think the name is quite cute, but it is what we use in our house to name ladies bits!!! (sorry) So I could never call it a daughter of mine. However, I think Penelope is nice for a middle name.

It's lovely, Penny or Penelope, just gorgeous. My DD was born just before the 20th anniversary of my mum's death, so I named her after her grandma, it just felt right. Good luck with it all!

serin · 02/06/2009 23:16

I love it.

bumptwitkknocker · 03/06/2009 12:14

abraid · 03/06/2009 12:19

Another vote for Penelope!

peppapig3 · 03/06/2009 12:42

Love Penelope but not keen on Penny.

Moosy · 03/06/2009 13:01

I like it, it's on my list for DC3.

pranma · 03/06/2009 15:22

Its a really lovely name imho

poppysweetie · 03/06/2009 18:45

I like it, helps that I knew someone lovely called Penny

Gattina83 · 04/06/2009 00:51

No offence to anyone but when we were little girls we used to call our private parts our Penny!
I actually really like the name though it's cool because it's well known but not overused, it's cute at any age too.
