Am coming up 10 weeks up the ol' spout with twinnies. 3-month-old son is a James aka Jimmy and as yet we (of course) are unaware of the genders of the twins. My mother's convinced it's two girls, I think it's a boy and a girl - although in fairness I was woefully wrong last time around.

Favourite prior to this was Alice for a girl but I've found myself warming to Karen in a big way. The youngest I know is a couple of years younger than me (I'm 20) so it's a little passé, but I don't think this will be a problem. I like retro!

Any musings? I'm going to be here a LOT over the next few months with my name-related flights of fancy!

It's just not cool.

Kbear · 31/05/2009 10:47

It is cooler than cool. How very dare you ! LOL

dont like it... i know a couple of karens , and theyre a pair of bitches tbh.... but then again i believe a childs name influences their personality... so have only named my children with names of people i know to be absolutly lovely, fantasic, kind ect.... (sorry)..Cherys is a cool name.... know a cherys whos lovely. how about GAIL?.... know one whos running marathons every year for charity...

TwoScrambled · 31/05/2009 11:57

I quite like it, also Karenza (Cornish). Also like Peter, Karen and Peter sound good.

What about Susan, due for a comeback soon!

Kaylo · 31/05/2009 19:42

Who cares what everyone else thinks...it's your baby!!! Name her whatever name you love.

I like it btw - it a very pretty name and massively under-used at the moment.

I hated it when I was younger, and am now known by my nickname. The main reason disliked was there were hundreds in the 70's, so you wouldn't get that now! Much more likely to be a problem for Alice, Amelia and Isabel - all quite smart names in the 70's, now still pretty, but very common.

stampsurprise · 01/12/2020 10:07

Too many Karen memes now!

TheNanny23 · 01/12/2020 12:05

I was surprised it took so long to say it; whilst I hate the use of the ‘Karen’ meme given it’s popularity I wouldn’t be giving the name to a baby.

I don’t think Caryn has the same connotations.

It’s more 90s but what about Hannah?

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 01/12/2020 12:13

This is a Zombie thread from 2009. Little Karen will be around 10 or 11 years old now

MimiDaisy11 · 01/12/2020 15:22

They should really lock them after so long. I was confused as to why no one had mentioned the annoying Karen memes lol.

TrixieHeliotrope · 01/12/2020 16:07

Not too keen, if it's a boy and a girl I'd go with Alisia and Evelyn, girl and boy Evelyn and Bartholomew and if it's two boys Bartholomew and Mohammed.

Marlena1 · 02/12/2020 08:21

I like names of that era too but I would be worried about all the neg associations. I habe a friend who is a lot younger than me and she often talks about someone being a right Karen. Pity as I think that it's lovely (and would have swapped my name for this). I also love Danielle and Erica.

@stampsurprise
Why did you purposely revive a thread from 11 years ago on the name Karen? Mumsnet would have had a note to say it was an old thread when you replied, so why did you do it? You must have known. Did you do it because you thought it would be fun to provoke a pile on with Karen memes and jokes? Maybe it was on the back of the Karen discussion currently happening on AIBU, is that what prompted you? Because you didn’t find this thread to revive without actively searching for it.

Turtleturtle81 · 02/12/2020 09:33

I see @stampsurprise has been taking part in the Karen discussion and saying derogatory things about the name - so yes, she did search for and revive this thread on purpose to provoke a pile on.
