My husband loves this name, it is in a baby book as a proper name, do you think we would be condemning the child to a lifetime of explaining this is not short for Olivia?
Other names we like are Georgia and Ava.
I am nearly 37 weeks, its becoming urgent!

It may be a proper name in your book - but I think everyone will assume it's a shortened form of Olivia. That's not a bad thing, is it? Olivia's a gorgeous name (and love your other 2 choices also )

Personally I don't like it. There was a small child where we were on holiday whose parents kept saying "Livvy darling..." and "Oh Livvy, how marvellous of you". I kept hearing Libby and thinking of Neighbours (albeit Neighbours a long time ago when I used to watch it), then I heard someone else addressing the girl as Olivia.

It's true you know - you associate people with names. On holiday we did not connect with Livvy's parents at all (and nor should we have done I guess). But now I really do not like the name. Sorry.

Oops - Georgia and Ava are both beautiful names.

Also...another reason I am not that keen on Olivia is years ago working in Italy a load of people kept calling me Olivia (this was before it became a 'popular' name). In the end I asked why & they (a bunch of jockeys) said they just didn't know what my real name was, and thought Olivia suited me. I was tall and v v skinny and my association at the time was Olive Oil (don't think theirs was though).

See - bad associations for me. Just forget my opinions on this

How about Liviana, Livvi for short?

Unlurked · 27/05/2009 20:45

I think it's nice, actually I prefer it to Olivia but lots of people will assume it's a nn.

Rindercella - Libby is still in Neighbours...

Well, you could always go with Liv i.e. Liv Tyler, Liv Ullman and then call her Livvi. You have to think "How would this sound as a Bank President, etc"

Fine if you dont live near edinburgh, where it is the nickname for Livingston, a small town near here, and it's football team

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 27/05/2009 20:48

How about Livia?

Gorgeous Italian name (she was the wife of the Roman Emperor Augustus).

Livi would be a natural nn.
