reminds me more of picnic at hanging rock!

MrsJamin · 26/05/2009 20:39

just not a 'baby' name IMHO, for someone who's 30-50 - like Brian for a boy

MrsMcCluskey · 26/05/2009 20:40

whats a SATC?

boodleboot · 26/05/2009 20:40

her surname begins with Mi- so i think she is planning to use Mimi as NN which is a very cute little girl NN no?

It would never have made me automatically think of SATC. 'Carrie' would, but Miranda is common enough that I wouldn't link it with a tv character.

PuppyMonkey · 26/05/2009 20:42

It reminds me of that old film about a mermaid called Miranda.

Sex and the City is very old hat now, I don't think anyone will link the two things.

Mimi is cute.

bronze · 26/05/2009 20:43

makes me think of the tempest

melpomene · 26/05/2009 21:00

I wouldn't particulary link it with SATC, and in any case:

  1. Miranda of SATC is the most 'normal' and well-adjusted of the characters
  2. Children won't know of the show, and by the time your friend's baby is a teenager the show will probably be almost forgotten anyway.
Lulubee · 26/05/2009 21:17

There is a risk of 'Randy' as a nickname though...

Another one who'd think Tempest rather than SATC. Like it.
Or "Do you remember an inn, Miranda?" - Beloc poem www.thecapras.org/mcapra/miranda/tarantela.html

MrsJamin · 26/05/2009 21:29

better names that start with "mi"

  • michelle
  • millie
  • mia

and best of all:

  • miriam (LOVE it)
AnybodyHomeMcFly · 26/05/2009 21:36

Lovely name and makes me think Shakespeare, then Miranda Richardson, then SATC. Shakespeare is the most enduring by far.

boodleboot · 26/05/2009 21:40

michelle??? really - i do not like that name at all....sorry....Mia is gorgeous but oh so popular, i know she has vetoed that and Millie is a NN....Miriam unfortunately is the name we use for your 'front bottom' in my family....don't ask me why....

it's lovely. if i didn't have a cousin with the name and a dd whose name begins with 'M' i'd seriously consider it myself. i dont think it's elderly at all.

Quiltedrose · 27/05/2009 13:42

It makes me think Miranda Richardson too, but as Queenie in Blackadder (it was her, wasn't it?) and I do not think that is a good thing! Mimi is lovely though

nomorechoc · 27/05/2009 13:48

is mimi pronounced mi-mee or mee-mee?

boodleboot · 27/05/2009 15:22

mee-mee
