Posted on Adelaide a couple of days ago whch had a mixed reception but DH seems to prefer Adele, which I guess is the French form of the same name. What do you think of it?

its ok. but does make me instantly think of the portly singer....How about Adison?

hullygully · 26/05/2009 20:33

v nice

BakewellTarts · 26/05/2009 20:33

Love it as was my wonderful Grans name.

Wilts · 26/05/2009 20:34

I like it, my best friend at school was called Adele

screamingabdab · 26/05/2009 21:35

I like it.

I also like Lydia, which is a similar sort of name IMO

hobbgoblin · 26/05/2009 21:38

I don't like.

The names Adele and Cynthia both make me think of spiteful bullies because the spiteful bullies I know were named those names.

Therefore, my view is not that useful because I'm sure nobody else thinks that when they hear the name.

Mind you, it does sound a bit, unsophisticated to me in a Little Britain character kind of way.

peppapig3 · 26/05/2009 21:56

Haven't heard of a singer called Adele. Really don't like Addison I'm afraid.

It would be ok, but I really really seriously strongly severely hate the singer of the same name

ramonaquimby · 27/05/2009 10:01

so you're not a big fan of Adele sockmonster?!?!

sockmonster · 27/05/2009 10:05

...shudders....

peppapig3 · 27/05/2009 11:03

What a shame sockmonster!! At least you're honest!
I don't think Arlene is at all similar to Adele either. Adele makes me think of a pretty French girl, like in Jane Eyre.

sockmonster · 27/05/2009 15:42

I'm still shuddering

I don't hate the name, just the ghastly association. Do you like Adeline?

juneybean · 27/05/2009 15:45

I like Adele or Adelle, definitely hate Addison.

Not sure about Arlene.

belgo · 27/05/2009 15:48

Adele/Adela/Ada are lovely.

Don't like Adeline - but then I don't get why you would put 'line' at the end of any name.

belgo · 27/05/2009 16:03

WHat about Adrienne or Adriana?

peppapig3 · 27/05/2009 21:48

Thx Belgo. I love Adela/ Ada. Not as keen on Adrienna as reminds me of Adrian too much!
