Could you? Would you?
I am starting to like this and nn Obi. Fits with other ds names but is a bit wackier than theirs.
Dh not keen, but is it worth talking him 'round?

Great name, love it.

letsgostrawberrypicking · 26/05/2009 10:02

Love it!

Stinkermink · 26/05/2009 10:14

Obadiah was a particularly odious character in the Sharpe series of novels, but is also a saint in many christian churches...so I guess my references are pretty obscure, and the association of the character from those books is what puts me off. But it is a good name in that it's unusual and better than the all the Joshuas and Noahs kicking about, lovely names but very popular now!

midnightexpress · 26/05/2009 10:17

Oh for goodness' sake.

NO.

Oba-bloody-diah.

No.

savoycabbage · 26/05/2009 10:17

Obadiah is lovely.

Guadalupe · 26/05/2009 10:19

Obi is nice.

midnightexpress · 26/05/2009 10:21

'Obladi
Oblada
Life goes on
Lalalala life goes on'

Thunderduck · 26/05/2009 11:10

No. I'm not that cruel.

PuppyMonkey · 26/05/2009 11:12

No no no. Terrible.

You might as well call ds Obe Wan Knobe.

avenginggerbil · 26/05/2009 11:20

Another negative reference: Obadiah Slope in the Barchester Chronicles is the slimy evangelical hypocrite who tries to do down the heroic Warden.(Alan Rickman played him in the 70s tv version - an early manifestation of his sherrif of Nottingham/Severus Snape persona.)

Boco · 26/05/2009 11:22

My favourite book when I was about 8 was about Jeremiah Obadiah Jackanory Jones.

I like it.

Disenchanted3 · 26/05/2009 11:23

I like it.

YeahBut · 26/05/2009 11:26

Well, he'll be the only Obadiah in his class, I'm sure.

ellingwoman · 26/05/2009 11:28

No. Next please.

If you like Obi just call him Obi.

slayerette · 26/05/2009 11:34

Just watched Sharpe's Company last night as it happens - Obadiah Hakeswill, rapist and murderer. Lovely...

Tortington · 26/05/2009 11:35

obi wank n obi

Tortington · 26/05/2009 11:37

Jeddediah

nn jed

thats better

all solved

SummatAnNowt · 26/05/2009 11:43

We called the cat Obi

GetOrfMoiLand · 26/05/2009 11:45

Oba-Di Oba-Da, Da-Oba- DI- Dada sweet like chocolate

Makes me thing of that awful Flowrider song that dd plays all the damn time.

Sorry, no, I like unusual names but Obadiah is awful in the extreme. Jeddediah is good (my brother's best friend was called that), Zachariah, Isaiah, but not Obadiah, sounds like a character from a Cecil B De Mille film.

Boco · 26/05/2009 11:49

Yes Jeddediah is even better.

And if you wanted to stick with the Starwars theme, you could shorten it to Jedi!

PuppyMonkey · 26/05/2009 11:59

Ooh yes, Jedediah Strutt, who invented ... something or other, didn't he? A bit like Jethro Tull?

tummytickler · 26/05/2009 12:53

I wouldnt just call him Obi as i like the long name better, it is just an eay, short, cute nn.
The Star Wars thing is not deliberate btw! I have never seen any of the films (although dh and ds are big fans!).

Very strong name. Quite like it, actually. Obi is cute.

We used to have a neighbour called Ozias, which I thought was cool.
