I know its a bit early as I am about 30 seconds pregnant but it always helps me if I have some names for the baby so I can "talk" to the baby etc (sorry, am I weird...)

We have 2 girls, Poppy and Kirsty so we need a name to go along with them....surname is fairly normal, begins with M - use Matthews as an alternative...

I'm thinking Jemima, Niamh or Trudy for girls and I've drawn a complete blank on boys - DH has said no to EVERYTHING so far...(said no less vehemently to Freddie than the rest)

Any suggestions...

Aw Freddie is lovely! We were like you - couldn't think of any boys names at all! Thankfully dd was a dd so it was fine!

As for girls names Poppy and Kirsty aren't really of the same style so I think that means you could go for anything you like really!

Jemima is lovely, Niamh is meh and a wee bit odd next to your girls names and Trudy is a bit old-fashioned (and not it in a good way) for me!

What about...

Eliza
Connie
Isabel
Martha
Phoebe
Kitty
Annabel

I like Niamh, but them, I'm Irish. I don't like Trudy. I don't like Freddy, and don't like abbreviations used instead of the actual name, ie, Freddy is a boys nn, not his ACTUAL name. What 'style' are you looking for, old fashioned, like Edward, Albert, or standard, like Sam or Ben (partucilarly like Benedict as the long version myself), and for girls, something else floral, or old fashioned like Violet, Esther, Vera, Madelein (sp?)etc? I like Elodie, Agnes (pronounched the French way, ie Anyes), etc. Hmm, must look myself, seeign as I'm also in need of a girls name.

Hi

Thanks everyone so far nothing that Dh has liked...

I'm not a fan of "old man" or "old lady" names - we also in the past have gone for "the shortened form of the name being the actual given name" - its just something we would do whilst I understand that others wouldn't. (DD1 would have been called Joe and DD2 would have been called Danny - although we have gone off both now...)

DH is, well, frankly dull. His parents started at the beginning of the alphabet and gave their children "decent solid names" and they didn't believe in middle names ("Middle names are for city people, not for the likes of us") - frankly his family are a whole different story.

He doesn't want Biblical names (biut I suspect thats is because I'm a practising Christian and he isn't and he feels like the church will be seeping into everything...)

Do you like any of the suggestions made here Bathsheba?

Luxmum · 25/05/2009 11:18

Hmm well in that case, get DH to sit down and come up with 10 names he likes. You do teh same. Then swop lists and writtle it down. At the end of the day though, YOU are giving birth to the baby, so YOU get last call on the name. He can't just diss all your names, he needs to produce his own. Plus your inlaws arent naming you child, you are, so if you want a pretty middle name, and want to use that instead of a 'solid' name, then do so. It's your child after all...!

DD2's teddy bear is called Phoebe though...I can see that as a reason for Dh to say No

I like Lara. Sorry am I boring? Also like Zac as well, its become very popular though.

Bathsheba · 25/05/2009 12:15

I have suggested Zac to Dh over the weekend - he said No...

There is a chance this baby will be born in Norway as we may be on a secondment with DH's work, but he flatly refuses to entertain the idea of a scandanavian name
