For a boy, just wondering how you would say it? Is it too Freudian? Too camp?
I like the pronunciation 'loo-see-an' and I hate 'loo-shun'; would I be disappointed?

Would it not be pronounced loo-chi-an?

Portillista · 23/05/2009 20:14

I thought it was Loo-see-an, and I like it!

Lucien is pronounced Loo-see-an
Lucian is pronounced Loo-shun - well it SHOULD be

FrannyandZooey · 23/05/2009 20:16

trust me
i have looked into this EXTENSIVELY

pretzels · 23/05/2009 20:16

I figured the loo-chi-an pronunciation is more Italian in which case the name would be Luciano?

I may be wrong!

i would say it however the parents said it. I like both pronunciations actually.
it's a fabulous name

pretzels · 23/05/2009 20:18

OK so do you think Lucien would guarantee the 'loo-see-an' pronunciation?

OP posts:
Wilkiepedia · 23/05/2009 20:19

No I stand corrected - I was going to say that if pronounciation WAS loo-chi-an it might sound daft if no italian heritage.

I quite like the name although prefer Lucius (sp?) - as in the little prince in Gladiator

pretzels · 23/05/2009 20:19

oh babynaming-so stressful!!!

Tell me about it - I am 37 weeks but we think we have finally settled on a name for DS2!!

FrannyandZooey · 23/05/2009 20:21

pretzels Lucien is the correct spelling of "loo-see-un" AND most people will pronounce it like that and spell it like that anyway

FrannyandZooey · 23/05/2009 20:21

i mean - even if you choose the other spelling!

nooki · 23/05/2009 22:26

I would pronounce Lucian as Loo-see-an. Would be pronounced similarly in German and French too. Love the name!!

FrannyandZooey · 23/05/2009 22:31

well you would be wrong then

pretzels · 23/05/2009 22:33

haha brilliant. is it a general 'we like'? DP says it is like lucifer I think he is mean! I don't like many boys names, this was my first choice (if people say it right!)

OP posts:
FrannyandZooey · 23/05/2009 22:37

lucifer and lucian both come from word 'light'

this is a lovely name

I have a lovely chum with this name

skihorse · 25/05/2009 10:53

I live in The Netherlands and it's pronounced Loo-Shun.

violethill · 25/05/2009 11:22

It's lovely, but the Lucifer connection would put me off I'm afraid.
