Which do you prefer for a girl and why?

I prefer Isabel as Avery reminds me of a bird aviary and I think there is a company that makes scales or something called Avery.

fedup1981 · 23/05/2009 00:04

Isabel. I love the name Isabella, it's really feminine. Avery reminds me of aviary. Or average.

piscesmoon · 23/05/2009 00:05

Isabel or Isobel

nevergoogledragonbutter · 23/05/2009 00:06

Avery is really crap.
As is avril or avis or aveline.

Isabella or Isobel.

Ronaldinhio · 23/05/2009 00:10

I like avery but I think it's because it reminds me of the mum in Syvia's Mother by Dr Hook

Isn't Avery a boys name (and American to boot)? I'm sure that Fern in Charlotte's Web has a brother called Avery.

Lots of Isabel's around though (especially if you include the Isobel, Isabelle and Isabellas too).

sockmonster · 23/05/2009 09:56

Isabel

janeite · 23/05/2009 10:01

I really, really don't like Avery, sorry.

Isobel is a lovely name.

lechatnoir · 23/05/2009 10:33

Like the others Avery makes me think of birds (but like Ava) and like Isabel if you don't mind that it's very popular now

Thunderduck · 23/05/2009 10:58

Isabel. Avary makes me think of a bird house.

peppapig3 · 23/05/2009 11:39

Isabel is lovely. Don't like Avery at all!

PistachioLemon · 23/05/2009 11:47

Another one that thinks Avary sounds like
(a) a boy's name and
(b) something you keep birds in

Isabel is lovely but very popular.

Bonneville · 23/05/2009 11:54

Avery sounds too much like ovary and the first thing that came to mind was that its the name of a company that makes scales.

MsMaggieBeauregarde · 23/05/2009 15:29

have you been on american name boards? Avery was suggested often on the american boards when I was pg years ago.

Go with Ava or Isabel.

PistachioLemon · 24/05/2009 11:09

FreshScent - I do like Ava. In fact, probably more than Isabel. Perhaps consider that as an alternative to Avery?

MrsMattie · 25/05/2009 12:13

I know a little Avery, but he is a boy and American. Where is it from? it sounds made up.

Isabel? Meh. Gotta be in the Top 5 this year. Isabella much prettier, but still quite common. Depends if that bothers you.

chandellina · 25/05/2009 19:24

My (American) niece is named Avery and the name has grown on me a lot. We often call her "Ayves." I believe it is far more commonly used for girls than boys at this point.

I do love the name Isabel in its various usages though too. And Ava.

Paolosgirl · 25/05/2009 19:26

Avery sounds too much like aviary.

Really dislike it, sorry. Sounds v. American. Love Isabel though.

ponynuts · 03/06/2009 11:55

Isabel. Avery's not nice to say to someone, especially as their name.
