What's the verdict?

I have been endlessly criticised by family for even remotely suggesting I may call my next child Agatha, obviously if she's a girl.

Myself and my husband think it's a very elegant name and doesn't sound too abstract from our first child's name, Jacob.

Am I deluded?

I love it!!

oysterpots · 20/05/2009 10:00

I think it's great. Really nice. I also like Agnes

passmethegin · 20/05/2009 11:16

Hmm, I do tend to like all the 'old' names making a comeback but I'm not sure I could name a child Agatha. Won't you get bored with people saying 'oh, like Agatha Christie'?

BalloonSlayer · 20/05/2009 11:51

Always makes me think of Hag.

Although Taggie is quite sweet

MadameCastafiore · 20/05/2009 11:53

Sounds harsh and makes me think of someone with bad teeth.

Thunderduck · 20/05/2009 12:34

I think it's horrible. It doesn't seem at all elegant to me, quite the opposite. Actually it makes me think of The Trunchbull in Matilda.

WinkyWinkola · 20/05/2009 12:46

I think it's an ugly name personally.

gloomysue · 20/05/2009 13:45

I think Agatha is a beautiful name, I know an 11 year old Agatha nn Aggie.

missmiss · 20/05/2009 13:48

I love it. Am also quite keen on Taggie as a nickname [waves to BalloonSlayer].

fruitstick · 20/05/2009 13:49

love it!

dizzydixies · 20/05/2009 14:27

I also like it

bluemousemummy · 21/05/2009 21:14

Absolutely love it, mainly cos of Taggie (O'Hara - I too know my Jilly Cooper!) for short...

MrsSchadenfreude · 21/05/2009 22:06

I have a very, very cool friend called Agata (no "h"), so yes, I would go for it.

RachieB · 22/05/2009 16:07

Don't like it

i know a new baby called Agatha Enid and it really doesn't "suit" her or go with her siblings name!

Sesi · 22/05/2009 16:28

No, this is one of those old names that doesn't need to be revived. It's an ugly sounding name if that makes sense. Agnes is a lot more elegant.

Madmentalbint · 22/05/2009 16:39

Love it - I'm another Jilly Cooper fan though!

bronze · 22/05/2009 16:40

I like it

WOuldnt bother me the Christie thing as she was a fabulous highly intelligent author

reikizen · 22/05/2009 16:42

To me it's one of those 'trying too hard to be effortlessly cool' names. As you asked...
