Scottish boy name - Greer / Grier? Overdue and help required!

Am now overdue with DC3 (boy) and searching for a name that DH and I can agree on. I've always liked Greer but thought of it as a girls name (due to 1940's actress of that name).

DH has just mentioned his father has a (male) friend (also Scottish) named Greer (or possibly Grier). I like it but not 100% certain as I've never personally met anyone of that name (male or female).....what do you think? Will people automatically assume he is a she?

(by the way our other choices include Hector, Hugo, Hamish, Nairn, Campbell, Blair, William,- in fact we don't really even have a short list as such...............) Poor child could end up called ANYTHING!

Anyway, so Greer/Grier..............?
Thanks for your help

I love Hector but i think that has a lot to do with the character in monarch of the glen called Hector who I really liked (Richard Briers played him I think). Never heard of Greer for boy or girl and while I wouldnt' choose it myself I think it is pretty nice. I am Scottish as well and would like Scottish names but OH is vetoing evertying I come up with. I like Brodie though, I'll see how that goes down with him tonight.

I have the added problem of living the the SE of England with OH and his family from south London...so Hamish pronounced with a Scottish accent sounds lovely but with a strong Southern accent is pretty horrible. Just something to think about.

My ds1 is called Alec and ds2 is Hugh known to all and sundry as Shug or Shuggie. We had a shortlist when ds2 was born and he was nameless for a couple of days whilst we tried to work out which one he was. On our list were Fergus, Angus, Fraser, and Gregor.
