hello, what is the most common way to say this name - I would think A-lee-see-a, (and not Alisha) as the name is derived from Alice, but just wondered what your experience was?

Thanks.

Al- LI-cee-a is traditional - and therefore in my book correct [boring old fogy emoticon] but many disagree!

SamJamsmum · 17/05/2009 07:07

I would agree with you.

ilovepeppapig · 17/05/2009 10:42

i agree with you but know a little girl whose name is pronounced a - lee- sh

BonsoirAnna · 17/05/2009 10:42

Al-i-ss-i-a

MrsMattie · 17/05/2009 10:46

I know several Alicias aged from 4 yrs old to mid 30s, and they are all 'Al-ee-sha'.

I do also know an Alyssia (Al-iss-ee-a) and an Alecia (Al-ee-see-a).

GossipMonger · 17/05/2009 10:59

My preference is A-lee-see-a

but heard it as

Alishia

Elissa

Alissssseeya

tis a minefield of a name!

gagarin · 17/05/2009 11:01

Ali - see - a

Astrophe · 17/05/2009 11:03

I would assume A-lee-sha, but I do actually prefer A-lee-see-a.

RachieB · 17/05/2009 19:41

I prefer the Al- LI-cee-a way

Ponders · 17/05/2009 19:46

If you say Aleesha it tends to get spelt Alisha.

Should be A-liss-ia IMHO

Kotek · 18/05/2009 05:55

thanks, hopefully if dd was introduced with a certain pronunciation people would stick to that. Am i being overly optimistic!?

I think A-lee-see-a sounds best

throckenholt · 20/05/2009 07:12

Al-is-i-a

but I guess those of Caribbean or American influence might well say Al-ee-sha

dinkymum · 20/05/2009 08:57

I immediately thought A-liss-eea

scottishmummy · 20/05/2009 09:04

i would say A-lee-see-ah

Mamazon · 20/05/2009 09:05

Al ee sha.

Al is i a would be Alyssia

ByThePowerOfGreyskull · 20/05/2009 09:06

our babysitter is called Alicia - she says it A-Liss-eea

boodleboot · 20/05/2009 12:20

i have a friend Alicia who pronounces it A liss ya and we call her liss for the most part....

weblette · 20/05/2009 12:34

Polish friend Alicia is a-lee-sha

EyeballsisonaDietAgain · 20/05/2009 12:36

When I used to read Malory Towers, or St Clares or whichever, in my head it was always Al-ee-shia but not Al-ee-sha

MKG · 20/05/2009 12:45

in the US we pronounce it A LEE SHA, I like the pronunciation A-lee-see-a so I spelled my daughter's name Alysia.

mina1702 · 17/08/2009 16:25

A-lis-ia - my preference, this is my daughter's name and people often say alishia, aleesha and I immediately correct them. Famous Alicia's who prounounce it differently have confused the correct proununciation.
