Having trouble agreeing on a name with DH. I am happy with more popular classic names but he isn't keen and wants something unusual. Am floating a few ideas on here. What do you think?

Raphael
Elias
Atticus
Hugo
Caspar

Any more good ideas gratefully received!

Raphael or Hugo. How about Elian for a boy? It's some obscure cuban boys name which I like, derived from his parents names elizabeth and juan...random... Elias is OK but fav is Raphael.

MrsMattie · 15/05/2009 18:55

Elias is gorgeous, although I would say El-ly-as, not El-ee-as. I also like Raphael.

sockmonster · 15/05/2009 18:56

Elias, to amend the above, seems a bit too feminine for a boy, in my opinion. I may be wrong.. Atticus is just mean! How about Matteo or Leonardo?

sockmonster · 15/05/2009 18:57

Though with MrsMattie's pronunciation Elias is acceptable!

OK I will stop changing my mind I'm not helping much!!

Oh, another name that I like is Benedict. Any OPs on that one too?!

I don't like any of them, sorry.

slowreadingprogress · 15/05/2009 22:11

Atticus is just trying WAY too hard and is the worst!

Actually Caspar is a nice name, I like that.
Like Benedict too. And Raphael is ok, Raff for short is cool.

How about Gabriel?

Leo?

slowreadingprogress · 15/05/2009 22:12

Jasper?

CantSleepWontSleep · 15/05/2009 22:14

Love Atticus and Hugo.

peppapig3 · 16/05/2009 08:03

I think I like Atticus because of the character in 'To kill a Mockingbird' who is so gorgeous and prinicipled! Take on board some of your comments about teenage boy test, etc!

PuppyMonkey · 16/05/2009 08:12

Crikey, they're all a bit poncey imho.

Go for Jasper.

peppapig3 · 16/05/2009 08:47

Slow readingprogress, I like Gabriel but a good friend has one s couldn't use this. Still prefer Caspar to Jasper.

Hugo or Raphael for me.

The thing about Atticus is, yes, we all love the character but it's a teensy bit poncey to actually use it. I don't mean to offend anyone who has named their baby Atticus but maybe where you live influences it. In Fulham he can play with Cosmo and Rupert but in other parts of the country....

PieceNharmoknee · 16/05/2009 10:53

Love Love Love Raphael.

Caspar will always be a ghost
Elias and Atticus - awful and 'try too hard' names
Hugo - hate

missmiss · 16/05/2009 11:28

I love them all except Elias, which I still quite like. Sorry, not very helpful!

MrsEricBana · 16/05/2009 11:36

How have you managed to post that in the future missmiss - I am very impressed!

MrsEricBana · 16/05/2009 11:37

Ooh, now I am in the future too - how exciting - wonder if I can buy a lottery ticket for tonight.

MrsEricBana · 16/05/2009 11:42

Anyway, back to the question in hand - sorry Peppa! I do like them all but was just reminded of the time a very smart friend was about to introduce me to someone I hadn't met before and wanted to forewarn me (as I'm prone to put my foot in it) and she whispered "Just to warn you, her baby's called Atticus"

peppapig3 · 16/05/2009 12:26

Yes, I do see what you mean little dawley. We don't live in Chelsea with lots of Ruperts and Cosmos so would probably have lots of raised eyebrows!!

Raphael - it's ok
Elias - nice
Atticus - mmm, i wouldn't
Hugo - a bit hooray public schoolboy
Caspar - my favourite

hulabula · 16/05/2009 16:47

From your list I really like Raphael and Atticus.

Casper is too close to Kasper (Clown in German), and with Hugo I don't like the way the 'H' is pronounced...

How about

Quentin
Theo(dore)
Conrad
Benedict

gerontius · 16/05/2009 17:25

Raphael - quite nice
Elias - ok
Atticus - you cannot use this name. people will double-take.
Hugo - a little pretentious
Caspar - no.

marmoset · 16/05/2009 18:40

No problem peppapig - I am thinking of hiring him out as a name pundit. He has very strong views. Like the suggestion of Benedict.
I also like Elliot, Finn, Fergus,Rory, Sebastian, Gregory and Louie.
